Bullet Seating For the .338 Lapua Magnum

Hi Guys,

New to reloading so please excuse the newbie question(s).

I'm starting to reload for my BA 110 .338 Lapua Magnum. I'll be using Lapua
brass, Federal 215M primers, Sierra 250gr. / 300gr. HPBT or Lapua Scenar
250gr. bullets. For powders, I chose 4 or 5 different ones to see what works
the best for my rifle.

Is there a specific number that I should keep in mind when seating the bullet off the lands? Any recommendations would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark

Hi
iTS really a trial and error to see what your gun likes.
Another thing to consider is do you want to single feed or stuff them in the mag? Unfortunately for the latter you will probably be off the lands a good bit. My ar30 is off the lands with 250 sierras but not jumping a great distance.

Also vv n560 works well with 250's in my lapua.

Thnx skyav8r. Most likely will be single feeding to start. I do have some
V V n560 to go with the Scenars.

How far off the lands do you recommend I start with? Do you have a number
that's a good starting point?

I went right to mag length on mine and never tried adjusting seating depth because I shoot it as a repeater but if I did single load I'd start 15 or 20 thousandths off. Work up in increments til I found something good then tweak seating depth from there. Some guys start at 15 thousandths jammed and work up to pressure then you they know the absolute Max charge with a particular combo and start seating and charge adjustments from there. Everyone does it a little differently.

I shot the 300SMK loaded mag length over H1000 that put
me .080 off the lands. I had such good results never tried anything else it was a hammer inside 1500 yards and the 300smk is hard on deer as well.
