Bullet recommendations for .110" freebore 8 Twist?

I built the gun for 105 hybrids but unfortunately they are rarer than unicorns at the moment and I am out. I bought some Hornady 105 Match and Berger 95VLDs to try, but the Hornadys seat very deep in the Dasher and the 95 VLDs are very shallow when touching the lands. Basically the entire boattail of the Hornady 105s sits below the neck. I'll ladder them today, but I kind of doubt I will be able to hit that 3050 node with that much of the case capacity removed.

The Hornady jackets do not agree with my Wilson seater stem either. I need to lube the neck after ultrasonic cleaning to prevent a pretty deep ring from forming where the stem makes contact. My necks are turned to .0122" and I use a .266 bushing. I even put the expander back in A Whidden die to try to open it up but it's right on the edge of too tight. The stem is fairly new from Wilson and I thought it was the VLD stem, but maybe not. It doesn't hit the tips of the 105s like the original did. If I can figure out how to chuck it concentrically I will open it up and see if I can push the contact point down to where there will be some lead behind it.

A database of bullet prints would be really nice. Anyway, I'm about to buy some berger 105vlds to try but thought I might ask for recommendations here before I throw more money at it.

Howdy !

F.W.I.W....

When time came to chamber for my 6mm wildcat, it was right @ Camp Perry time; and Sinclairs
had NO 6mm 105 -107s on-hand. Broughton 6mm SS 29" 1-8 "5-C" rifled; Palma taper.

I $$$ a box of Sierra 95Mks, and used those + a w.a.g to arrive @ c.o.a.l. for my sample round;
which riflesmith then chambered to. Can't quote you on freebore, sorry.

I will say that the 105s and such are down-into the case, as you mention.

My point:
In my rifle/my loads.... Berger 105gr non-hybrids shot very well. Also, Berger 95 BTHP and Sierra 95Mk
were grouping neck-N'-neck; also very nicely.

Sierra 65BTHPs grouped superbly. On-balance, I'm quite happy w/ how the chamber turned out.

DK if that helps, at all ?

I think that helps. You were able to load the berger 105 vlds in your shorter throat chamber? I think I'll go ahead and give them a try after I wring out these Hornadys which just showed a bit of promise.

I just went to the range at lunch to shoot a 15 round pressure ladder at 100yds just to find my max charge with these bullets. The target is a bit perplexing but I have 6 shots with a span of charge from 31.6gn to 32.3gn of re-15 that went into roughly .160". These were shots#4 thru #9. Shots #1-#3 and #10-#15 grouped much lower and to the right (31.0-31.4) & (32.4-32.9) The only real anomoly other than the distance between the poi and the broad charge range for that group was Shot#10 which was out in right field. #10 was only .1gn more powder than the last shot in the small group. There were no apparent pressure signs with any of the loads but I haven't mic'd the bases yet.
Of course the Chronograph wouldn't pick up anything because the sun was shining directly into the sensors. Hopefully I am at least in the 2950fps range with the loads that printed well.

I forgot to move the scope from zero.

Yeh.. those Bergers ( non-hybrid ) shot just fine for me ( my gun, my loads ).

In fact, woulda been one of my best 100yd 5-shot groups ever; until......

If you had a .135 free bore you could use the new 104 BIB's ..... jim
I have heard legend of these mythical BIB 104s. A uni-throater might be in order.

Jim, Could I get your opinion on that target I posted above? The sweet spot seems to be on a 12 O'clock exit node but why such distinction in impact points and grouping with such a small changes in charge weight? I can't make any sense of it. I was expecting much more gradual changes.

Hmmm, It appears that someone may have been telling stories again. I think I just may have a Brux on my Dasher.
We will have to see how they do this weekend...... Its supposed to be blowing 20.

You need one like i got from Donovan,it really liked the wind. It's funny i just set it back again with over 3000 rds. and it still likes the wind. Tom said the wind would be a little more than 20MPH. Maybe that's incase you get him again ..... LOL.Got to like them Brux, 3more on the way..... jim

Tom,It isn't bad till you have to hold the next guys target..... Hope you don't draw the wrong end.. :)... I guess i can have fun, i'm out of it this year........ jim

Tom, No, but you only have about 20 min. When you shoot out in the open life is different..... LOL.. ;) With that wind you may find out..... jim
