bullet recommendations for 10" twist Cooper 6mm. BR

Hello experts,
I have ordered a new cooper 6mmbr. with a 1-10" twist. I tried ordering some 95 gr. bib's, but they are not able to get jackets for these at the moment. I ordered some 67gr. bullets to try, but would like to find something heavier for shooting local matches from 100-500 yds. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -Brent

Pretty tough to beat some mid-weight (80-90 grain) Bergers for that application. Head over to powder valley and order some while they have some in stock.

The Bib's 95 gr. will be great. The 90 gr. BT Berger and 80 gr Berger will be good also.

That is dependent on where your shooting .
My new 105 hybrids state optional barrel twist is 1.7 . My answer was based off of the reasons they stated. That is 3" faster for 15 grains . Larry

Ten twist is on the edge with 90 gr bullets
Larry

Gyroscopic stability (Sg) is FAR more dependent upon bullet length as opposed to weight: some 90-95 Gr. bullets could prove "perfect" (Sg 1.5) via a 1:10" twist, while others may prove marginal. At Sea-level, Std. conditions, and 3000 FPS MV, the BIB 95 Gr. FB is "perfect": anything above sea-level things generally get better. :) Good shootin'! RG

P.S. "perfect" being my perversion of the 1.5 factor recommended by most exterior ballistics gurus; Robert McCoy, William C. Davis, Brian Litz, etc.

He said 500 yards asumeing that I don't think he was talking flat base
That's what I get for assuming. Larry

Better tell that to long range shooters . Now they know . Thanks Larry

Tell that to Dave Tooley ( well known gunsmith and 1000yds benchrest shooter), he and a few other shoot a 30 cal 187gr FB for 1000yds Benchrest, and win lots of matches. I have talked to Dave about flat base for long range, many times, they tune better, and shoot better groups. I have shot 68 gr. and 80gr. 6mm bullets out to 600 yds. with great results. if the wind is up, the low BC will cost you in wind drift.

IBS-1000 current HV-Gun Group Record = 3.044" by Joel Pendergraft (2009) with 187-Bib Flat-Base
Dave Tooley held the NBRSA-1000 record from 2006 to 2014 with them (beaten by Bill Johnston in 2014)
Many 1000yd matches have been won with Flat-base bullets

Long range shooters already new..... and now you do !.!.!

The (nearly extinct) BIB 187 Gr. FB has a Doppler RADAR measured BC (G1) of .525; during the Doppler session, and up to that date, at White Sands NM, the most UNIFORM BC of any projectile ever fired. The only problem with FB bullets, is that they require an extra degree of specialization - primarily, a longish free-bore - which few individuals can get their head around and keep a firm grip! The best 1K results have been achieved via 1:12" & 1:13" twist barrels; the down side being a "throat" length which is about right for most 210-220 Gr. bullets, for which these twist rates are inadequate. Thus, no safety net for a barrel which does not "like" the 187 BIB FB.

If one Jeff Rodgers (Australia) were to post his accomplishments (600 to 1,000 Yd.), one might be mildly impressed.
Jeff used to post on the BenchRest Central 600/1000 Yd. forum, as ajr: http://benchrest.com/forumdisplay.php?12-600-1000-Yard-Benchrest But, he's a pretty modest sort. As are Dave Tooley, Joel Pendergraft, and Charles Ellertson - all of whom enjoyed success using the bullets that won't work. ;)

Many USA records, from single groups, to National Championships (group, score & overall), and multi match, season, etc., for Jeff, in OZ, where he pretty much rewrote the record books not once, but, twice, owning something like all but three, or, four, of the nearly 30 record possibilities . . . but, that was a year ago, and things may have changed . . .;) RG

any one who doesnt know about flat base long range bullets hasnt shot much,,,,Randy makes the best of all,,,,wish I had a wheel barrow full of those newfangled FB 95's or 105's,,,wink,,,Roger

If a record is 7 years old I guess all the new way of making guns and reloading doesn't matter. Or could it ben the conditions he shot in . It is obvious others don't know . Now they do thanks to you . But I can tell you and others if the twist is too slow bullets key hole Larry

You need to read and pay closer attention to what is being wrote and what is happening....
It wasn't "a record" set by flat-base bullets, it is multiple records, by multiple people. As well as numerous 1000yd matches and 1000yd National's. Anyone who has been around the sport and any one that is even half observant knows and have known for many years.
Myself, I have seen them being used for +11-years at both 600/1000-BR events.
