Bullet Pullers

Joe C

Student of the 1911.
Hey All,

Been looking at various different bullet pullers and was wondering what make and model you all have had good experience with? Not sure if the Hornady do it all one is the best option or if the RCBS collet type would be better. Open to your thoughts but I'm tired of using the inertia hammer...LOL!

I use the RCBS collet puller and am happy with it. I haven't used any others for comparison (except for inertia puller).

Joe,

I use the Hornandy Cam-Lock puller. A little awkward on a Forster Co-Ax press, but I manage just fine. Always pulls the bullet, and my one test bullet is showing some signs of collet damage, but for a few pulls, it is fine. See all the reviews at Midway. I am happy with mine. Does the job all the time and is quick.

I have been using the forester collet puller for 30 yrs and it works good. does not mark the bullets if you do not over tighten the collet.

+1 for the Forster with my Co-Ax. Works fine without marking the bullet. Again +1 for not over tightening the collet.

+1 on the Forster. Per Jim Hardy's advice, I used some Emery Cloth to knock the sharp edges off the collets. Rarely marks a bullet.

Hi Joe C,hi all

I reckon my opinion won't weigh much in this talk, but for what it's worth, and based on true experience, here it is:I wouldn't have believed it myself some 2 years ago when I was totally relying on the Forster collet bullet puller, but when it came to "extracting" some german WW II 8mm bullets stuck in their cases, this tool was absolutely useless if not harmful to the said bullets, scorching, scratching them, unable to make them move a wink...However tight I bolted that collet, nothing moved, but for a little copper out of the bullet 's body...And then this friend popped in with this RCBS plastic hammer(kinetic as it is known) and tells me "why don't you try this?",man, this doesn't even look serious after all the efforts I made with this "proven" Forster puller, but when stuck, you're ready to try anything,so here goes, and now that collet thing is resting in a plastic box, where it belongs, not to be used again ever... I'm aware it doesn't sound serious, but that's exactly what happened, and how I feel about it....If someone wants it,I'm ready to pass it on with all 4 or 5 collets I have.

Well geewiz Clod, sounds like you need to just box up that pesky old Forester bullet puller and send it to me so it doesn't take up space anymore. Not sure what I'd do with an ornery ole piece of junk like that but I'm pretty sure it won't be used to try and pull bullets that are primer sealed and cold welded in a case from 70 years ago. ;-)
