bullet pointing die

In my testing years ago the biggest advantage was getting uniform BC's. 600 yds and out you will see benefits of either trimming the meplat or trimming and pointing. A few percentage points one way or the other in BC won't win any matches unless you read the wind correctly. YMMV

I have the Hoover/A1, Whidden, and also one from bench source. They all do the same shit, and go about it the same way. The Hoover is the nicest looking piece, and has the most options for different punch profiles. That said, currently my Bench source is set up for 6mm Roy's, and my Whidden is set up for my own 30 cal, and my Hoover is idle.

Can you post a pic of your Bench Source ??

Like Dave posted above, I'm not looking to necessarily boost the BC. Just looking to improve raw precision, and preferably for some range of adjustment. Different profiles and amounts change things for better and for worse. Like anything I do, I pick out a few good looking options at the loading bench, but let the paper at 1,000 decide everything.

I’ve used the Benchsource for about 10 years now. It does what I need it to do, and was almost half the price of a Whidden when I bought it. It came with pointing inserts of various degrees. You just had to buy sleeves for the bullet diameter that you want.

Are any of you bullet pointers concerned with upsetting the core integrity to the jacket? I played around with a pointing die a bit and had to let it go. It didn't work for me between my ears, not saying it wouldn't have helped my targets....If a bullet slips out of my hand to the ground it is put aside for a sighter. I think the best-case scenario is if you can do it, to pick up your match bullets from the guy making them, in person, not letting them bounce around in the various mail trucks on their way to you.......Not saying MY little choo-choo hasn't gone around the bend a little bit...o_O

The amount to point, I find to be a critical aspect, with "pointing to much" often being devasting, effecting consistency/accuracy negatively. With that said, your concerns to "core integrity" is a probability that I can concur with also. At the same time, I have seen positive consistency and gains in accuracy when pointing a right amount with some bullet brands/types (not all bullet brands/types). Testing all aspects of pointing is my suggestion to all, that is very relevant in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing this Tom, this is a topic I’ve been thinking about but I just wasn’t sure how to go about it and of course run the risk of ruining a bunch of bullets messing around with something that’s above my pay grade. I only have a 500 yard tuner range to test on also.

Hi guys

Would anyone know which bullet tipping punch is suitable for 7 and 11 ogive 30 caliber bullets made with Ulrich dies (if that matters)

Tks
