bullet pointing die questions

The new bullet pointing die looks awfully like a Forester ultra seater. If so the seating stem would be replaced with a pointing stem with a shellholder attachment to deliver the bullet for pointing. Is this the case?
If so $250 seems like a lot of greenbacks for this type of arrangement.
Has anybody plopped down the $$$ for one of these? If so what's your take on what you got. Pictures of individual parts would be nice also.

Mine's on it's way. I think it's a good approach to a tougher problem than it seems on the surface.
I talked with Corbin about making a pointing die a few months ago. But it would have ended up very specialized, and for a specific range of ogives. Less universal, and more expensive than $250. So I didn't pull the trigger on it then.

I hope these plugs will work well for my bullets.. Only one way to find out I guess.

Used a drill bit guage, available at Sears etc)to measure the meplats on some Berger 105 VLD's. They come in at somewhere around .055.
Question for mikecr and anybody else who bought the bullet pointing die can you point them up much smaller than this? If so just how small can you get that meplat down to with the new pointing die?

Danny - it IS a Forster Body...and comes in a FOrster box...and the setup works really slick...genius arrangement IMO. John just sent me one the other day and I will be doing some exhaustive testing with several different claibers. Have done nothing but pointing a few test setup bullets so far...

Very easy to use and set up.

The micrometer plug acts as a stop, not the actual forming die.

I'm working 84hr weeks right now. Will let you know Danny.
I plan to use Kevin Cram's countersink tool to thin the meplat jackets and clean em up prior to repointing.
I think with this, I'll be able to get pretty tiny meplats. But field testing of results will need to be done..

I can imagine that meplats can be too small for good, depending on the ogive. I don't want to form a heavy second, low cal ogive.

Mike - there is a thru hole in the die part...to allow excess lube to escape...~20-30thou diameter I'm guessing...so if you try to go smaller you will just squirt a little hole-diameter projection out the front of the bullet...

JB,

You mant to talk to Bolo over on WCT. He has done some extensive study with pointing and has been using it for some time. He found accuracy will suddenly drop off if you get the meplat too small.
