Bullet manufacturer options

Contact Alex Wheeler.

His "better half" makes one of the top 6mm bullets for competition anywhere. It is the Roy Hunter pattern 103gr made with Roy's equipment. Only thing is the demand is so great, with long waiting times, that there is no advertising. So maybe don't do that and just shoot some Berger stuff. They are pretty good, especially if you sort them by weight and do some pointing.

I'm simply asking, is Hornady a bad choice? Because that's been suggested rather regularly lately.
Simple answer, NO. Hornady makes some fine bullets. Look how many are used in various shoots. But you need to find and use a load combo with the choice of weight that YOUR rifle likes and shoots small groups with.
Takes some time, but worth it and just adds to your shooting style and pleasure.

Th V-max and ELD style are good choices to experiment with. You will find a load that you like.

To extrapolate further, I have never had a shooting mentor. I started out many years ago happy if I could produce a grapefruit-sized group at 100 yards. Then I gained more experience and wanted to break an inch. Then 3/4". Then 1/2". Now I'm interested in under 3/8" consistently. Not on a good day. Every day.
Many here are much better than me, no question about that. Many here have a budget that exceeds mine 10x over. I do not resent that.

What does YOUR rifle tell you about hornady?

Just a personal opinion but I see it like this in order that I would rank them if accuracy is the sole criteria
1) - custom made
2) - Berger/Sierra
3) - Hornady
My personal findings for what I use them for. This gets tricky because
On a particular load I'll use Speer as my favorite.......I'll shoot a Nosler
or Lapua over Hornady's lip stick bullets. The A-tips shoot real good but
not at their price point......Probably 75% of my shooting is with Sierra.
I would shoot more Bergers but I have moved away from VLD types.
A good many years back, Hornady made a 162gr 7mm HPBT. It was
one hell of a bullet. Ahead of it's time. They decided to obsolete it for
reasons unknown.......

Berger / Sierra
Lapua
Hornady / Nosler
Barnes / Speer

I'm kinda where you are, I don't shoot matches at least not yet as work keeps me too busy but when I retire might try it.

I'd ask yourself, if you haven't tried Berger, Sierra, or some of the customs then how do you know 3/8" is your group? Maybe get some of each and see. If they all shoot 3/8" then look elsewhere for what's needed to pull that in.

I tried custom and first time ever saw regular 1's and 2's, that told me what the rifle and loads would do, consistently being able to produce those groups is on me going forward. For that rig it's well worth the extra cost as I built it just to see what would come of it. I shoot the cheaper stuff in my varmint rigs.

When they perform Hornandy bullets can be awesome but I’ve had issues with them that I don’t get with Sierra and Berger.
Same here. It's been 5-7 years since I moved away from 223 H75's - Hornady had me send samples from a couple lots - neither meet Hornady's accuracy specs. But my good groups with H75's were every bit as good as S77's.

They changed the 6.5 140 BTHP as well
Then the Houdini bullets with 130 and 147 eldm and 180 eldm that appeared lot to lot.

Okay, 3/8 is .375., so let's say you want to shoot consistently in the "3s". 6BR shooting Berger 105 vld at 2,800 - 3 mph wind at 9 o'clock = .20 drift, miss the pick up or let off you're at .575. This is the other part of the equation - it don't matter how good your bullets or reloading methods are you have to use a flag and learn to read it etc.

Is this 200 yards?
