Bullet making for my own use

My next cast bullets are not going to be pure lead. I have some pewter t melt and the Tin in the pewter is supposed to make my bullets not have wrinkles. Casting I think has a bigger learning curve than reloading did.

I have no plans on casting bullets...... just putting jackets on a hunk of lead.....sounds easy when you say it that way.

Don’t tell me that.

Sorry but maybe 10% of handloaders cast at least some bullets. I'd say less than 1/10% ever try swaging jacketed bullets. I've known just one who did. The dies alone to swage just one type of the jacketed .223 bullets I mentioned earlier cost north of $1500.

Hey Guy's, Making bullets really isn't that hard, it's a straight up, simple mechanical operation, it's the operator that makes it hard trying to impart his own "magic" into process that complicates things.
With a good set of dies, punches and press(or presses) and a little guideance you can be making good stuff.
Just a couple of things to learn is how much lube to use and don't get cute trying to get too tight a punch fit, better more bleed by than not enough or none.
Keep good records and everything clean and lubed.
I called George Ulrich and got set up with everything I needed including instruction and costs were very fair.

Are we talking making cartridges or bullets? I cast and powder coat, but if you are talking swaging and all that you are WAY out of my league!

I would have to build a new shop to store them in!
Maybe I’ll just order a decade or so’s worth.

You probably won't need a Hydropress quite yet either lol but I gotta say this direction you are heading is very intriguing.

I don't even know what a Hydropress is?????
What I do know is, keeping three teenage granddaughters and their mom in bullets is a full time job. At times there is not enough left for the old guy to shoot, and that ain't good!

Call George and forget about the rest, if you intend on make a Benchrest quality bullet. That’s the best advice you can get. Forget all the rest of the BS you’re getting. The last three posts from Mark, Randy and Butch are spot on.
