bullet drift left vs. right

I am curious to know the general consensus among long range shooters on sight in on their guns before competition. Some people sight in right on 100 or 200 and then deal with bullet drift and right vs. left (spin drift making them different because of right hand twist). I have heard others say to sight in an 1 moa left in order to "equal out" the spin drift to right. I do the latter but am not sure if it is the best way.

Not sure what kind of shooting your doing, but for the long range 600-1000 I will sight in for the day predominant condition. I will not make a sight adjustment after that. Just hold for the condition and dont shoot in a let up.

I sight in at 100 then bring my windage over during my first few sighters at a 1000yds. Of course I bring up my elevation first as needed.

Are you sure they weren't pulling your leg? :-\

Your Zero should be horizontally and vertically centered. During competition the Sighter shots will reveal the necessary changes needed to both elements.

Clickups are recorded for all distances fired in the match's & those are the settings I use. Windage is zero'ed at 100 yards & I hold off for whatever is required. Seldom make windage click adjustments, the only time being if I have to hold on the left or right edge of the paper, still not hitting the ten ring, more holdoff would put me onto the target backing with no hold reference, then will click windage to get back to my hold on the edge of the target. Works for me.

I usually go for .5 moa left at 100yds, which is pretty much right on for 800yds or so. At 1000yds, theoretically it will be hitting a tad right, but it is lost in the noise in real world conditions.
