Bullet deflector bullet hole

OK, so some A-Hole wanders on to my property (had to cross a fence to get there) and puts a bullet hole in my piece
of A500 steel. It was a direct perpendicular shot and the perfect whole is a bit bigger than .308. We inspected the inside
of the deflector and found a perfectly round bullet base, a bit thinner than a dime, with the letters "GS" stamped in the base. Anybody here have an idea what ammo was used. Fortunately, they inflicted only one hole. Yup, it kind of teed me off. There are some people out there that have no business with guns.
Thanks,
Robert

I got to start checking my bullets for pirate ships, I've never seen one marked before.

I used to shoot some SPEER GRAND SLAMS in my 300 win mag. And 270 Wby. I belive they had GS stamped on the base.

Ill say that I feel your pain.

Real shame some “A” hole would do this.

Sounds like the other person in the we you mentioned and maybe his friend used your range when you weren't home.

Not sure a Grand Slam can defeat A500 plate, but stranger things have happened.
What thickness is your steel?
Same thing happened at one of my private ranges. New member made Swiss cheese out of all the 1/4” A500 pistol targets with his 5.7X28 FN handgun. Over 90 holes in the set of 10 targets.
He is no longer a member.
Denied it even after footage was presented.
Good Riddance.

The local sheriffs dept. wanted to see how steel could be penetrated by a rifle. Their 338 lapua rifle with copper jacketed lead core bullets could shoot through 1/2 steel (not armor plate) at up to 500yds. One of the deputies had a 300 lapua that would do it to 600yds

The plate is 3/8 steel and the rowdiest round we have used so far was out of a 300 Weatherby. I do not allow
full metal jackets of any kind as this is for hunting bullets and I don't consider FMJ's as hunting bullets. This
bullet hole was discussed again last night with possibly some new opinions. This plate has an approximate
60 degree angle to it and it was shot at a perpendicular angle. You would have needed to stand pretty close
to that steel to get perpendicular to it with a rifle. If that bullet had splattered someone is likely to get peppered. Maybe explains only one hole. Someone, me, suggest a possible aerial shot from helicopter.
I think Dusty is correct, not a stray shot and the "we" know better.

Also, see my comment about poachers. It's disrespectful people like this that would take a shot at the backside of your bullet deflector.

The Bible says an eye for an eye. In the shooting world, “a hole for a hole.” Stick one his disrespectful as$.

sheer speed will poke a hole-it is not always the make up of the bullet.

60 years ago i shot a fmj with a steel core at a RR rail and it dripped down the rail. a 220 swift with a 50 gr sailed through.
