Bullet Deflection

There we were, camped out in a Polaris Ranger camoed out with burlap(works great). When out strode a big fat doe at 40 yards. I square her up in the scope, adjusting to miss the bobwire fence, BANG! "You missed her!" "No I didn't, I was right on her!" "You hit right at her feet!" I peer through the scope again and see the broke fence bouncing. (It gets better) We climb under the fence and check the feeder, which had another fence around it to keep the cattle out and there is another broke strand! Not one but 2 broke fences to fix. Lesson learned, 200 yard zero requires some fancy math at 40 yards. Luckiest doe ever. 6.5 120g TSX just in case you were wondering.

I'd think that it'd be about 1/2" high. I would have aimed an inch over the wire if that was a vitals shot or anything over inch under if not..

I would think that a 200 yard and a 40 yard zero would be nearly the same. But I know it gets confusing. For example, on high mounted scopes, to go from a 100 yard zero to a 50 (or 200) yard zero requires turning the elevation turret in the UP direction.

Thanks for the moral support guys ;) I just figger after all the 600+ yard one shot kills a 40 yard miss would shake things up a little. My buddy gave me one hell of a time about missing with "That Custom Rifle". ::)

It happens. I hit a doe right in the shoulder blade when the arrow was deflected by a small vine that I didn't see in dim light.

It hit the vine hard enough to knock the nock off the arrow.

Fortunately, it was a really close shot and I got enough penetration to get through. Barely.
