Building a .338 Edge

Planning on building a .338 Edge. I have a 111 Savage long action small shank, currently in 300 RUM, a P14 and a 1917, to choose from. Anyone with opinions on which choice it should be?

Some wont build on a small shank tho. I know a few have tho. Factory ultramags and wsms were usually on large shanks.

Agreed, but he's using a 300 RUM already, so no change.

Bugholes.com has a bugnut if you are worried about it. I used it on my Edge as a Remage install. But, mine was due to using an MTU barrel.

I built an edge on a Savage small shank but from a 7 Rem Mag. When loaded long with 300gr OTMs, it's a single shot.
Bought my barrel from McGowen, and installed the improved SSS extractor kit on the bolt. Easy peasy.

My original thought was to do the Savage as it's simply screw in the new barrel and go. There isn't much difference between large and small shank, in any event, being only .065 diameter difference, and the nut. But my ability to complicate anything, took over, and my thoughts went to changing everything all at once. I wanted to maintain the 300 RUM as shootable, but with a pencil profile stock barrel, it's pretty vicious. Plan is now to rebarrel the Savage as .338 and do the 14 or 17 as 300, and the last as a 35 Whelen.
