building a 300 rem. ultra mag

Hello guys,
I have a 300 Remington ultra mag CDL left hand bolt ( I'm a lefty) sitting in my safe. I had bought one when the round first hit the scene. It was a wonderful rifle. But I was young and needed rent money and had to sell it. So I bought the one above about 5 years ago shot it for a bit. Then I started to work on loads for it and stopped. Now it lives rent free in my safe.
I was thinking sell it or strip it build one.. I was thinking heart or pac-nor heavy barrel, jewel trigger (of course) , night force glass. I'm not sure about the stock or if I want a ptg mag bottom metal ..or just sell it with all the reloading components I have and build a 6mm.br.
Its not like I can shoot 1k yards and my gun club is 300yards max..and I don't hunt..
What should I do..

Sell it... I have one I am considering selling too.. In reality for 99 pct of hunting in North America, it is simply too much gun!

I am a fan of the big stuff and like to see others push past the mythical 1,000 yd mark. Shooting the big stuff so close is truly disappointing.

The BR is a great option but it is hard to get it to feed from a magazine if that is something you want.

From what you have written, sell all of it and build/buy a 6PPC or maybe a 6BR. They recoil very little and will fit in with your circumstances. So many want to build a 1000 yard rifle with zero expectations of being able to shoot it to that yardage. Build/buy what you can use and spend your well earned money there.

I have some beautiful safe queens that I swear I am going to get around to shooting ONE DAY......

+1 on the 6 br build. Very accurate, a pleasure to shot and load for. I'd suggest going with heavier bullets for this build just in case you find a place to shoot further than 300yrds.

I'd maybe consider something just a little more functional. I built a BR and cannot say enough good about them. No recoil, super accurate, and just plain fun to shoot but the downside is: They are at a disadvantage beyond 500 yards. They lack the boiler room to get a 105 at or above 3000fps which is where you want to be at 1000 yards. Mine feeds flawlessly from a savage blind mag but will NOT eject. I must fumble around with picking it out of the action after every fire. There are fixes for this such as lengthening the ejector pin. I tried and would have to make a new one so I decided to give up on the BR and opt for a little more performance to shoot long range. I would suggest the 6xc. Looks like a promising round. Not the best out there but just right IMO.

Do a .338 RUM if you want a performer out past 1000 or do a 6XC or 6 Creedmoor if you want a fun little gun for shooting under 1000.

Out to a mile, a 6xc or 6 creedmore that can get a 105 VLD to 3150-3200 fps will out run a 6.5-284 and even some of the magnum 30 cals ;)

The 105's have less drift even than a 115 that's clocking 3000fps. I've done extensive ballistic comparisons on this. The bigger boys don't take over until 1800 yards..
