Building a 20br

I’m building a 20br and I have a question. I have Redding 22br s bushing dies so I am getting bushings for the 20 . So will the 22br seating die work ? If not what will other than buying a very expensive if I can find one 20 br seating die. I have a Redding 204 seating die and the stem is smaller than the 22br but it’s not from a type s set.
thanks
Doug

I use Redding's Comp Rem 222 and a 22-250 seaters for my 20-222 and 20-250. The stem makes contact a little further down on the bullet nose but it seems to work just fine otherwise.

That’s what I was hoping for. I didn’t know if the bullet would go to far into the seater so the seater would contact the case mouth .

I use a 20 dasher for seating in my 20BRAI
and a Harrell’s BRAI sizing die, just change bushings to neck the brass down & size it

I wouldn't be as concerned with this as I would be with the lack of neck support running a 20 caliber case into a 22 caliber neck. Probably work fine with boat-tail bullets but flat base.....? dedogs

It wouldn't be much of a trick to fit a bushing in the 22BR seating die for the neck diameter of the .20 . -Al

Sizing die will work but I wouldn’t use a 22 BR seater.

The link @Gabe22BR provided is perfect. Wilson also had a 20PPC seater in stock when I built my 20PPC so it made my life a lot easier. I use a Whidden 22PPC bushing die for FL sizing.

You can also buy a 20 cal Wilson inline seating blank and have it reamed out with your chamber reamer when the smith does the barrel if you want an exact chamber match.

I messed up because there was a wilson die that sold on eBay for like $50 I didn’t buy it because I am using a rcbs press and never have used wilson dies. What do I need for a press to use them ?

If concerned about cost, a rubber mallet is all you need for a Wilson die.

You can pick up an arbor press for around +/- $100 if you want to make things a little easier but a mallet works just fine.

Well I bit the bullet and bought the last three die type s neck size dies that MidwayUSA had. Wish they would have had it with a full size die instead.
now I have three neck size dies 6br 22br 20br.
thanks for all of your input

A small arbor press, a drill press, wooden mallet, deadblow hammer, anything that will press the stem down, will work...

send ya 3 fired cases to Harrell’s, they’ll make a bushing sizing die to fit you chamber.. at the shoulder & base...

You can always sell off what you don’t need..
right??

dbudd: I'd highly recommend going with a Wilson inline seating die.

They open up a whole new world of options and make doing load work at the range not only possible but easier. You can record the seating stem length to 'just touching the lands' at home for each bullet you want to try, record that figure, and then go to the range and quickly adjust the stem length for each bullet and what you want the seating depth to be. Don't worry about getting the micrometer top. The thread pitch on most Wilson seater stems is 40TPI and that makes changing seating depth a snap. What to change it .010? Look down at the screwdriver slot on the seating stem, turn it 90 degrees and verify with a dial caliper. It's simply that easy! The later stainless seaters are 24TPI but the concept is the same.

Vintage bottle cappers also make inexpensive little arbor presses for Wilson seaters. There's always a bunch of them on ebay for not much dough....search under 'vintage bottle capper'. Matter of fact, there's a slick little stainless one on there right now.......I'd not linger. ;)

Tough to beat a nice K&M arbor press, though.

Good shootin'. -Al
