Build Date - Remington 700 Actions?

Leaddog

F-Class T/R
I have a couple of Remington 700 Actions I'd like to find out the date of manufacture. I know the Remington Society posts build dates of their rifles based on the barrel serial numbers, but how do I find the build dates for just the 700 actions?

Thank you.

Serial number pre-fix letter will get you to the nearest decade.
4,5,6,7 digit serial numbered receivers-'62- early 70's.
A prefix-70's
B prefix-late 70's
C prefix-late 80's
D prefix-mid-late 90's(ISS/J lock Firing pins)
(bolt/safety lever lock cut eliminated from bolt body)
(Bolt handle tempering operation eliminated)
E prefix-millenium(Embellished Mdl 700/ISS/J Lock Firing Pins)
F prefix-mid 2000's
2006-last Classic Mdl 700 rifle chambering(308Win)
2006-introduction of X Mark/X Mark Pro trigger groups
G prefix-current production

All S/S receiver serial numbers have a prefix letter S
All Titanium receiver serial numbers have a prefix letter TT

All dates are approximate

Rem Custom Shop receiver serial numbers are sequenced w/ a Suffix Letter.
All 40X's are short actions, whether single shot or repeater configuration.

Call Remington( 1-800-243-9700. They can provide the date(year) for the receiver given the serial number. If I remember correctly, select prompt #7 when you call.

Are the RR actions any good
Well, I bought one for a 308 project and it was not so good.

I did all of the usual truing, the threads and face were about what older models exhibited..
The biggest problem was the bolt. The handle was out of time, on the upstroke you had to lower it a little to get the lugs to align with the bolt ways. The firing pin had about .015 clearance in the hole, and it had that typical wadded up firing pin spring.

I didn’t even mess with the bolt. I gave it to a friend and ordered a direct fit PTG from Carlsbad.

I have one of the RR that i put a criterion barrel on and its a shooter. 2 other people i know have same actions but they blueprinted them. They both have extraction timing issues. I hear the RR actions have that timing issue

I stocked an A model for my son years ago. It has the cut in the right bolt lug. I have an old ADL that I bought to rebarrel that does not have a prefix. It is 26**** or so. It does not have the cut and the bolt won't fit in the A prefix action.

I believe the cut was fo anti binding of the bolt. I recall the RR prefexed was mentioned in another post that it was drilled off center for the scope. Started hearing some of this and went to Savage even though I was a Remington fan since childhood.
