Budget Rifle?

You read that right. I read lots of threads here and see some beautiful rifles that shoot as good as they look, but there has to be some shooters on here that have great shooting rifles with out the price tag. Even my most expensive build to date with out a scope wouldn't have cost as much as most of the custom actions out there. I think I had close to $1200 in my .22-250AI before the scope. So lets see your budget rifles, here's mine

Stevens 200 action. (Bought the entire rifle and sold the stock and barrel) $210 total investment
A&B 24" stainless fluted .22-250 1:14. Bought used for $110 shipped
B&C Medalist Stock. Bought used for $125
Leupold 2pc base and rings. Bought used for $15
BSA 36x scope. (scares me a little how reliable this thing has been) Bought used for $50

Rifle is not bedded and only has an older 3 screw savage trigger installed. Total investment to date is $510. With a 50gr Nosler BT over 30.2gr of IMR 4895, OAL of 2.354" all stuffed in winchester brass it has shot a best 5 shot group of .158" CTC at 100yds. Mid 2's are normal for me and my abilities.

I have done pretty much the same thing as you! I started with an older ss savage action that I had (flat rear) and added a used LW 6br barrel, with a used sss trigger set to about 14oz, and a medalist stock (gray with black webbing). I topped it off with a egw rail and a used weaver t36 in burris sig rings. My best load has been 105 amax's and varget, shooting .4's at 200yds. I have some 107 sierras and 105 nosler cc's to try out sometime. I have just under $6 in it without the glass. --You got a heck of a deal on that medalist! I will try to get some pics up sometime.

I have been shooting in the custom class at my local club against all-out custom rigs, mostly pandas, and other all out BR rigs. There are a couple tuned up 700's too, and we shoot IBS targets at 300yds. I have yet to finish last, so that is good for me. I don't have windflags or anything yet either. This is my first year of shooting in any type of rifle match (lots of shotgun), and have only got to shoot in 4 so far. It is a lot of fun and have met some great guys. I think the savage/stevens are a great way to get started in competition for cheap, just make sure you check the rules at the club you may be shooting before you spend the money on certain equipment ;).

Anyone else out there have any "budget" rigs? ???

Remington 722 (300 dollars), Hart #7 taper, used, in 222 $175, NOS McMillan Anschutz $190 bedded and set up, 40XB trigger (free), rings and mounts $45, Leupold 6-18FX2 with turrets, $400. Smithing to put it together, and misc, $150 Shoots in the 3's. Pictures in the last issue of Varmint Hunter Magazine "Techno-Retro Rifle".

I bought a 722 at a howk shop sent it to my smith wial waiting to get it tuned into a 20 br the owner of the hawk shop called me (He is a very good frend) and told me the long story of the REAL owner of the gun had died and the son would like to have it back ? so I gave hem 2 options he diddent like op 1 so he bought me a 700 sent it to my smith thay sent him the old 722 then prosedded on with my bild I perchased a used rem 204 brl orig stock reworked the triger had it camo diped installed lupy rings and bases then a sheperd scope all less scope for under $500. And it shoots in the 2s and 3s depending on the bullet. I will next put on a shallin brl next time around ill try to get a pix up tonie

My deal is not as good as some but I think it was a deal at any rate.
I picked up a 600 Mohawk that had been molested, 700 bolt handle, Sako extractor, Shilen trigger. Rebarreled with a pencil 6mm Rem. (cal. unknow at time of purchase) stocked in bondoed up ADL. I gave $200 for it. It took me a couple years but I found a used laminated stock of my likeing for $100. In another deal I picked up a Leupold 6-24 EFR for $150 which I traded for a new Lihja 6br barrel chambered and installed. Put a EGW mount, warne rings and Pentax LS-30 6-24BP $400.
Total cost $850 for rifle that shoots under 1/2" and whales on the rock chucks in ID.
Added a pic. The rifle is currantly sporting a Sightron S-III 8-32MD, so I guess that blows the budget, it was a five year build to this point.
