Savage used to be that choice but now w Tikka and Howa are viable options.

My smith highly recommends Howa action as a base line for building a budget custom rifle (i.e., match barrel upgrade, trigger up grade, stock upgrade).

A few years ago, I was going to go this route but instead, based on advice from a fellow shooter, I purchased a Tikka Varmint model. Wow! This Tikka does everything I want, well almost everything. I would prefer a 12" twist versus the 8 but other than that, this factory rifle shoot sub 1/2 moa groups all day long with 60 Vmax's so on balance, I'm very happy.
