BSN F-Class Results 2017-02-12

OK Guys,
One of you asked me to continue posting results because they couldn't read the Facebook postings, so here they are.

However, in my defense I must add a qualifier. My F-Open scores are some of the worst scores posted and the reason is that my Berger 195 EOL bullets were exploding on the way to the target. Everyone of my score keepers can attest to that. I was pushing them (not by design) at approximately 3,140 fps and the combination of speed, twist and thin jackets were causing them to tear apart. The last relay was the only relay that I didn't have bullets disappear on me.

Congrats to all, very hard fought match, and the best of the best were there.

Special congrats for my friends and fellow Grand Junction CO residents, David Gosnell 1st overall and Jerry Bush first in EX open. Nice job.

The level that everyone shot this past week was incredible. Congrats to the winners. I had a blast even though it was only for the MR match and the two day clinic

Don't feel sorry for me, FWISW I had great time and met a lot great guys. My main reason for going to BSN was to take Mid's wind class and that was awesome. Well worth the trip. A big bonus was having Danny Biggs critique my equipment. In five minutes he made observations that would have taken me 5 years to figure out on my own.

I just can't say enough good things about my whole experience in spite of my ammo mishap. Even that turn out to be a blessing because Larry Bartholome and several others made some very salient observations that will be a great help to me in the future.

If anyone out there is a bit reticent, as I was, about going to a big time match like that, I would encourage them to go next year because there are so many people eager to share what they know that it will encourage you and motivate you to reach higher.

Joe, glad you had a good time despite the ammo troubles. It's a great experience out there in general. Ben Avery is one of my favorite places to shoot hands down, great range and the folks running it are top notch. As for the Berger match, its the best match of the year IMO. I missed it this year but hoping to make it next year.

I think both David and Jay were mainlining icewater between relays.

Yes Mike, it was match record city in F-open (sorry, I'm not up on the F/TR or sling records). In every match, the match record fell. In some cases, several people exceeded the current match record.

There was only one match in F-Open where the open category national record didn't get touched, that was the 4 man Team @ 1000.

In the Individuals:
600:
Lester Bruno set a new 600 yard record of 200-23x
Palma:
3 shooters exceeded the existing (Open, Civilian) record of 450-28x
David Gosnell set the new Open, Civilian record at 450-38x
Danny Biggs smashed the Grand Senior record with 450-32x

Teams:
2 teams exceeded the existing 4 Man team Palma record
Joe Meyer, Norman Harrold, Kevin Shepherd, and James Laney shot the new Open, Civilian record at 1789-100x.

Until it happened, I could not imagine that the level of competition could be so high.

The conditions were benign a couple of relays total. The rest of the time was a total dogfight for every X and point. To say that things got downright spacey at times would be an understatement. I watched great shooters drop 6 and 8 points in a single relay while the shooter to their right or left cleaned it with a high X count. Nobody was immune from having to think hard about what the wind just did.

Chasing the spotter worked some of the time. Reading the mirage worked some of the time. Putting water on the back of your neck and arms worked some of the time, and reading individual flags worked some of the time.

I got a heck of a lesson in how to read wind flags. I had been a one trick pony (mirage reader) until the last two relays. There is more to those flags than I had seen before.

God also reminded me that humility is a virtue in that same lesson. I'm putting that one in the big book of how to shoot better!

Huge Congrats to Jay Christopherson -- the man who keeps the server/software wheels rolling on this Forum. As a shooter, Jay gets better every season and has really perfected his shooting technique in recent years. Big news is that the SEB Mini is "for real". Here's Jay shooting his red flame "pimp my ride" rifle at 600 Yards. He used a different gun at 1000.



It was great because when I saw Jay at the end of the match I told him he had finished second -- I think he had not even seen the official results yet. Great performance by a talented young man. The Forum is fortunate to have Jay on our team. He does the hard, brain-intensive work in the background that keeps this Forum running smoothly. We all owe Jay a debt of gratitude.

How about that F'Class assassin David Gosnell! 125 shots down range and only miss the 10 ring 3 times over multi days of shooting?! And 84 of those into the 1/2 MOA x'ring? Amazing shooting David!!

Keith is being modest, so I'll call out that Keith not only coached that 4 Man (pickup) team Palma record, but also tied the existing 20-shot 1000 record (200-17X) and was one of those three shooters exceeding the existing Palma record with a 450-34X. My "lowly" 450-24X couldn't compete with those three machines on that first day, lol... There might be another record he tied or exceeded in there somewhere. So many fell, it's hard to tell!

To all that competed congratulations on some awesome shooting. I've got the BSWN on my to do list for next year. Looks like I won't set any records there seeing how so many fellas set a super high standard. But in the end we all seek accuracy and the people raising the bar are the pioneers of such high expectations. This forum has been a major player in this hold tight/shoot tighter game, and the reloading room standard practices as well. Thank you and congratulations on some great shooting Jay Christopherson! You are a blessing to most of us accuracy nuts.
