BSA platinum 36 reticle canted

I’ve had this scope for years - not sure where i purchased. It has sit in box and until i mounted on a new 17wsm i didnt realize the reticle is canted. I’m sure warranty is a 1 yr and long gone. I mounted scope and did shoot rifle to sight in but can not stand the crooked reticle. The scope held zero but the cant has to go ! I could mount scope off level so the reticle was correct but can’t do that either ! It would probably move anyhow if i did. I will not send scope for repair so im going to ask - has anyone tried to straighten reticle by taking scope apart ? I have taken scopes apart before just to see what’s inside and trashed later but i like this scope. It’s clear and has dot reticle. I wonder since reticle has moved will it effect zero at some point or could i move reticle back and tighten down ? And use scope. Not a major deal to me just to trash scope but wanted to ask. This rifle will be a shoot a crow ground hog not a big deal type rifle but i do want it right. Has anyone had same problem with a bsa scope and able to fix ? I can see a arken or Riton or older Tasco fixed on this rifle but wanted to ask for any input on the bsa platinum

Opening the scope releases the gas and even if you get it back together, it will fog a lot easier. Sorry but it sounds like its trash.

The reality, unfortunately, they’re cheap for a reason and many will not hold POI.

17 WSM...really...I need a photo!

As for the scope - send it back to the importer and see if they do the right thing.

I've never had a bsa apart, but i suspect that it has a spanner but that holds the reticle. You can remove the eye piece and look inside, the reticle will be an inch or so in the tube. You can make a wrench to fit and remove it and the reticle. I suspect you can just loosen it a little and move the reticle back in place and retighten the nut. There will be a tab of some sort that positions the reticle. Be extremely careful with the reticle as they are extremely fragile. Worst case you trash the scope, but if you're not happy with it the way it is what do you have to lose. :) As for the gas, i would bet it is all long gone before you take it apart, you do risk letting dust or moisture in. I've only done competition scope, they were never a problem, a hunting scope used in the rain may be.

Steve as old as the scope is I’m thinking same. Heck I’ve torn up more more trying to fix. My dad told me several times i could tear an anvil up with rubber mallet ! I have nothing to lose and certainly not afraid to drop in trash can. Just thought if i could straighten reticle and it hold i would give it a shot. I have a couple bsa scopes that have held up well and certainly hold zero. This Winchester 17wsm shows promise and i think it’s going to shoot ! I prefer to have a good scope on it so i may try to get reticle back to plumb ? If that’s the right word ? If not then nothing lost - i will just have to buy another scope. My dad says to me also - it’s nothing but paper . Spend it. I’m going to play with bsa but if anybody has a used second focal plane at least 24x used scope the. I’m interested ! I will post back what i find inside the bsa and whether i can straighten or not.

Here’s a pic - I put a decent leupold on it with dot reticule until i can find a replacement. This rimfire doesn’t deserve the leupold but it does shoot pretty good for a 350 $ rimfire ! I will post some target pics shortly
