BRX & bullets

I've had this rifle for just over a year and I love this thing, but its a testament to all rifles are different. A hot load (32.6 varget) in my brx isnt near what most seem to use but in mine the 32.6 gives ejector marks. I've learned to load test at 300yards cause anything closer every load is pretty much the same, and that the rifle likes to be shot dirty (200+ rounds without cleaning). I just don't understand why at 300 the Sierra 107s group at 3/4", and the bergers are between 3/4 and 1" but at 500-1000 the bergers are a lot better. I don't have specifics on group size but the scores are better with bergers.

First, which Berger 6mm bullets are you shooting? and which primers?

2nd, give us a little detail on your rifle equipment.

I have two friends and all of us shoot BRX's. We are pretty well satisfied with 107SMK's out to 600yds.

I use 33.5grns Vargert, one uses 33.3, and one is totally satisfied with 30.5! All three of us with destroy at least one spotter shooting a string of 20! My load is considered "on the edge" of being hot, but I have no signs of high pressure.

I do have a 6.5x47L, it WILL NOT tolerate a hot load with 130 Bergers. Now 120 and 123's are a different story with this gun and NO one can explain why! JMO

I'm using the berger hunting vlds, and cci450 primers. It's a redone savage Target action with a 4 groove 30" kregier barrel.

Sometimes I wonder about shooting a lot without cleaning and then having pressure problems in a few different rifles. I think that when there is only .002 or .003 neck clearance in the chamber, there is bound to be soot and carbon buildup in that area after several firings and wonder if it doesn't just get a little too tight for bullet release...just my thoughts

First off, sorry you only have two friends...... ::) hope I am one of them.......I too shoot a BRX but find with my Remington 33.3 grains of Varget is too hot a load showing similar pressure signs as described by goldy1. I worked up a load using VV N540 @ 30.1, CCI BR SR Primers, 1/8 twist Krieger BBL @ 29.5" that is very accurate at 600. Just shows every rifle is different......

I have a Kreiger 1-8 28" and like Dennis mine loves 33.4grs of Varget with the 107 into the lands. The other load it shot very well was 33grs of RL-15 with the 107s.

Mine is more of a tactical rifle. I shot it last night at 300yds with both Wolf and CCI450s to see what the difference would be and the CCIs shot .996@300yds and the Wolfs shot 1" at 300yds off the hood of my pickup using sand bags.
