Brushed Firing Pin

Yep, been there done that. One model 12FV in 223 I bought when Savage was dumping stock had a very poor fit to the bolt face. It would blank primers of factory ammo and very mild hand loads. I measured the pin to hole fit and it had like .004 clearance. I was able to order firing pins from Savage back then, now you have to have a FFL, and cherry picked one of the 6 I bought. That fixed the problem. Later I did have a couple of my Savage Bolt heads BUSHED. What a difference!

Google the word "bushing". You are not "brushing" the bolt your are normaly turning the firing pin down in size and then adding a bushing to the bolt body where the firing pin protudes.

Multiple reasons, one is to reduce the diamter of the firing pin, reduce the clearance between the firing pin and the hole in the bolt and last some bolt allow the pin to travel un-guided as in not supported for it's full length of travel through the bolt body before it hits the primer this fixes that as well!

I am only 52 but it seems like what what once common knowledge decades ago has been total lost on the masses. The internet has made things worse not better!

You want to know why? Guys like but not limited to likes of "Name Redacted" national and world champion and member of this sight and other competitors profit off of secrets and lies and half truths. The real truth is only shared within a tight knit circle of insiders.

It is sad but as you climb to the top things get cut throat and very catty like pre-teen school girls in the bathroom! PEople want to win at all cost and often spend insane amounts of money to attempt to gain a competitive edge. This means they burn th bridge behind them for 90% that might try to follow them!

Same thing happens when you mention sleeving a bolt or Borden bumps or blue printing a bolt.

Bushing bolt to .062” is one of the best modifications that can be made on R700 bolts (and others with large firing pin holes). Well worth the cost. One time modification that solves the problem. Send it to boltfluter.
