Wow, what a difference!Remington has been known to chamfer the edges of the FP hole on some rifles. I had the misfortune to own one. Here are the before and after pics.
That is absolutely horrible!Remington has been known to chamfer the edges of the FP hole on some rifles. I had the misfortune to own one. Here are the before and after pics.
I don't think they deliberately chamfered the hole. I think the chamfer was just an artifact of a screwed up machining process. I bushed a half dozen or more of these. WHThat is absolutely horrible!
Words fail me....
It is not you it is a matter of what used to be common knowled vs what is known today by the average man! To be clear I amnot blaming you or making fun of you. Thanks EVERYONE for understanding my lack of knowledge of bushing the bolt face
and me calling it BRUSHED... lol...

As far as successful competition shooters are concerned, my experiences have been very different from what you claim. To a man they have all been gracious and helpful. The NBRSA has a mentor program. Individuals have offered the use of equipment so that new shooters can gain the experience of shooting a match virtually without any equipment investment. In some cases match directors have waived match fees for first time shooters. If you look on You Tube, Jack Neary and Bart Sauter have videos that provide a ton of useful information. Several top shooters have published bucks that are full of tips. Generally I do not mind people posting under screen names, but when things get strongly negative, it makes me think that they are "keyboard brave" (made less cautious by their anonymity).Google the word "bushing". You are not "brushing" the bolt your are normaly turning the firing pin down in size and then adding a bushing to the bolt body where the firing pin protudes.
Multiple reasons, one is to reduce the diamter of the firing pin, reduce the clearance between the firing pin and the hole in the bolt and last some bolt allow the pin to travel un-guided as in not supported for it's full length of travel through the bolt body before it hits the primer this fixes that as well!
I am only 52 but it seems like what what once common knowledge decades ago has been total lost on the masses. The internet has made things worse not better!
You want to know why? Guys like but not limited to likes of "Name Redacted" national and world champion and member of this sight and other competitors profit off of secrets and lies and half truths. The real truth is only shared within a tight knit circle of insiders.
It is sad but as you climb to the top things get cut throat and very catty like pre-teen school girls in the bathroom! PEople want to win at all cost and often spend insane amounts of money to attempt to gain a competitive edge. This means they burn th bridge behind them for 90% that might try to follow them!
Same thing happens when you mention sleeving a bolt or Borden bumps or blue printing a bolt.
