Browning X Bolt Max Long range

My X Bolt Max long range shoots 2"-5" MOA at a 100yds . There is a guy on Long Range Hunting forum that has same performance with his Max long range. Then he installed a Bartlein same contour bbl and problem was fixed. I'm wondering if I could call up Browning and ask for a refund ? I mean selling this lemon ,means passing a lemon onto some other shooter. A new Bartlein bbl is $355.00 and a chamber and installation is that much again . I'll never buy a Browning firearm again .

Find the closest guy with the buckmark sticker on his truck and the tattoo on his arm and make him a deal. Plenty accurate enough for him. Hes used to it.

before you do that … have you tried different brands and kinds of ammo in it ? are you reloading for it... maybe it just doesn't like the bullet your using...if you have gave it a honest shake down and it just wont shoot any better I would call browning and see what they had to say... im not a browning fan per say but im also not a fan of passing on a knowen turd either

Haven't shot any factory ammo thru it. But have shot a few different loads and bullets thru it( Problem is the 26" lite fluted bbl and tupperware stock) . My 1 call to browning they said " Ship it" they said " 3 shot group covered by a quarter meets they're specs". But this is a long range rifle ? That's not even close to good enough.

Did you try with a different scope to rule out the cope being the problem ???

It's a 1 moa rifle and if it doesn't do 1 moa they'll fix it.

Don't believe a light weight barrel is made for long range shooting. How about re-barreling with a medium to heavy contour, same caliber-if that is one you like, and work from there ?

Sell it and buy a Remington Long Range Rifle. Or better Yet, Have someone build you a Great rifle!

That's what a shooter did on another forum ,he says it's a great shooter now. But same contour bbl ,said stock was to flimsy to wear a heavier bbl . I was thinking a non fluted Bartlein #3 Heavy sporter,its .020 larger at the muzzle than factory fluted bbl.

my personal experience has been that 99% of people that buy rifles off the shelf have a hard time putting them into a quarter let alone anything smaller...

Had several of the MAX rifles cross my path in 6.5CM and they shot really well with Hornady Match. The size groups you are talking about tells me there is a problem with rifle. Not a fanboy of Browning but most of their rifles will shoot MOA.

Not every group was under a quarter. But it was my fault ,now its about focus on bench

Just got back from another range session .Its deer rifle accurate,no way a PRC rifle,major pressure sensitive . I'll never buy a Browning X Bolt again. It seems when I'm holding firm to my shoulder and holding the forearm down on front rest it shot its best. But when controlling the rear and resting rifle on bag,crummy. also set it in a Hart Rifle rest with the forward stop and firm to the shoulder ,focusing an identical pressure it again shot crummy )-:

Just my two cents, but that wouldn't be my choice for deer hunting, just way too many Gremlins tied to that rifle.

Sad news Ironworker. The last thing you want to do when you get a new rifle is have to figure out why the hell it doesn’t shoot right. I haven’t seen a bad review about the X bolt and considered buying one, but they didn’t have the caliber I wanted. Good luck to you.

I bought a Max in 7 mm mag. Same thing with mine 2"-5" groups. I've hand loaded for it, bought the factory ammo Browning recommended for it, tried 4 different very reliable scopes, torqued the bases and rings to 18 inch pounds and can't get it to shoot consistent. one day the zero is here one day the zero is there. I sent it back to Browning and they sent it back "fixed" with a target that was a wallowed out hole. I just put a scope on it today after getting it back and it's NO BETTER! I called them up again today the person I talked to looked up my other information from my previous return and said two different gunsmiths shot it and it was within specs, they have sent me another return label and it's boxed up and ready for UPS. If it comes back again and won't shoot Sub MOA it's gone and I'm done with Browning.

I never sent it back. My gunsmith re-did the bedding and factory bedding fell out with a tap of the screw driver. Turning the rifle into basic deer hunting accuracy. So cut my losses and traded it in on a Bergara Premier Ridgeback. First trip to the range that rifle surpassed their Sub MOA guarantee ,both factory and my hand loaded ammo shot 1/2 MOA at 100 yds.

Agreeing with some of the other post above. The Browning rifles I have owned in the past never shot exceptionally well with hand loads nor factory loads. Ho-hum accuracy at best.
