Browning 1885 22 hornet

I started with Rem 6 1/2 primers in my CZ 527 22 hornet, but ended up shooting CCI 500 small pistol primers all the time now. IMR-4227 with a 6 1/2 driving a 45SP with about 11.0 grains is a good one, but slow. You best long range bullet is probably the 40 V-MAX. I was shooting 13.0 of LilGun with this one and Rem 6 1/2's, but the best - most wind resistant load I have ever found in my hornet is:

Sierra 40 hollow point
13.2 Lil'Gun
CCI 500 SP primer
1.735" OAL
Hornady brass

These Sierra's were meant to be driven FAST by 22-250's, 220 Swifts, etc. So they are a little 'hard' at 22hornet velocities but I've never had any problem anchoring anything from the biggest of ground-hogs to Coyotes, etc. I only do head shots on Fox though because it will really rip them up otherwise.

Lil'Gun is what my 221 Fireball ended up liking best also, as much as I wanted to force it to like Reloder 7.

I think I am getting this thing sorted. really fussy about coal. Mag length shoots like a scatter gun, finally got this

Lilgun 13g compressed
Calhoon 42g dbl hp
CCI small pistol primer
1.91 coal
PPU brass
Looks good for ground squirls to well over 200 yds.

PPU brass has given me good case life and accuracy. You may find the the flash hole is smaller than domestic brass. Small pistol primers, Nosler 40 gr bt and 12.5 gr LilGun were the ticket for me. Accuracy runs about 1/2 MOA. This load will pass through a coyote at 150 yards and provide full fragmentation

Now you guys on this thread have me thinking about caliber again. I have an original 1885 in .25 rim-fire which I'm going to send off to have the barrel relined. Two of the calibers suggested were the .22 Hornet and the .22 K-Hornet. I had been leaning towards .32-20, but accuracy is a passion with me.
Over the years I've developed some pretty accurate loads for a variety of calibers. In those days brass was available for most of those calibers. Today we have a pretty serious problem finding ammo and components, and I also have to be very careful about the caliber I choose. What good is any of this if components aren't available.
