I would think it just means that they are going to eat a little of their profit to get some inventory moved.

I refuse to pay it. I drove to Stuart FL yesterday and made my first purchase from Drifters to avoid hazmat. I think (no proof just a feeling) its a scam that benefits the shipper and the seller. And if they can at will decide no HazMat that just proves it to me.

yep ,, a few weeks ago I drove 1.5 hours one way to get some imr 8208 xbr (5lb) hazmat may of been cheaper

It's always a requirement to pay for additional shipping for the Hazmat items... doesn't mean that they have to pass that charge to the customer. The OP is saying that the vendor is NOT passing that charge on to the consumer. No government requires you to pass it on, they just require it to be paid.

We can still buy reloading components without having to ship to FFL, but all ammo in CA needs to go to FFL. Because of that, I don't buy ammo. I can buy powder over the counter, using cash, no checks.

I have plenty of powder for all the cartridges I use...Varget, IMR 8208 XBR, Accurate 1680 and CFEBLK. Oh, I do have H335 as well. I can reload for 308 Win, 6.5 CM, 6.5 Grendel, 300 blackout and 8.6 Blackout. If I can't kill game with all of that, I'm pooched...

The economy is starting to turn. Nobody can afford to pay for their hobbies. I have noticed in the last several months there is free hazmat or shipping from one of the big companies basically every day. For the last several years these promotions were only if it was a holiday weekend or something.
