Brownells acquires Sinclair International

I think most of you already know, but it was a surprise for me.
I just received an email from Brownells:

Dear Customers and Friends,

We've got some Great News to tell you-the Brownells family is growing! After working out the details with our close friend, Bill Gravatt, President of Sinclair International, Brownells has purchased Sinclair International. Bill, Pete and I have been talking about the project for some time, and we all decided to go ahead and wrap it up and get to the business of serving you better!

The purchase means big things for both companies. For Brownells, we will be adding Bill to our Management Team, Marketing Team and Strategic Team while adding top quality reloading products to our growing family of products for you. For Sinclair, it will allow them to strengthen their product line for shooters of all disciplines.

Frankly, we are plum delighted. Brownells is the World's Largest Supplier of Firearms Accessories and Gunsmithing Tools. Likewise, Sinclair is known the world over for its high quality reloading tools and shooting accessories. Our strengths and skills, deep concern for our customers, extremely high levels of customer service and outstanding product lines definitely dovetail into each other. Together, under our extremely strong teams, we will be able to provide our customers with truly exemplary service - truly an all new benchmark of service, selection and satisfaction.

The Sinclair name isn't changing, their operation will remain at the facilities in Indiana.

It's exciting times for both our families and our family-owned and family-founded companies.

For more information go to www.brownells-sinclair.com.

Best Regards,
Frank Brownell
President

On Brownells website there is more information:

The joining of these two highly-respected companies brings to the firearms world the top-quality selection of the very best products, the exceptional personal customer service and the absolute guarantee of customer satisfaction their customers expect. "It was a very natural decision," said Frank Brownell, President of Brownells, "for us to join with another very successful, highly regarded company with the same values, the same care and concern for their customers and the same quality and service standards we hold dear." Bill Gravatt, president of Sinclair remarked that, "With Brownells Sinclair will continue providing the very best products available, and will strengthen our product line for shooters of all disciplines. I’m extremely excited about the future for both companies."

Sinclair International will function as a separate entity of Brownells, and Bill Gravatt, will continue as the President of Sinclair International. The focus of Sinclair International will continue to be on providing high-quality products to their customers along with exceptional, personal customer service.

More details are on today's Daily Bulletin.

The key thing is that Sinclair Int'l won't be moving. It will keep its operations, its name, and its product line.

But we can expect Sinclair to offer a wider range of main-stream shooting products from Brownells, while the parent Brownells will, no doubt, be enhancing its product line with the precision-oriented gear and equipment now carried by Sinclair.

There should be economies of scale with the acquisition of Sinclair Int'l by Brownells, allowing savings in catalog and marketing costs. Overall, I think this is a good thing. But it will take some time to see whether the deal leads to changes in the Sinclair product line.

My question is does this mean that Sinclair's prices will now all go up, including the shipping? Brownells isn't known for having competitive prices. As far as phasing out all the specialized gizmo's that's what makes Sinclair Sinclair! Precision shooting is the name of the game for Sinclairs customers, and I'm afraid this aspect of Sinclairs sales may suffer by adding a lot of unrelated stuff that fills out some of the less desirable mail order houses catalogs.
I'll try to remain optimistic but I feel this dosen't necessarily bode well for we shooters.

I tend to agree, I've done business with Sinclair for some of their specialy items, and was always pleased. I always found Brownells to be a little pricey. Hopefully combining forces will benefit the shooting/reloading sport, only time will tell.

Hi Chris,

Sinclair will remain here in Fort Wayne. You should not see any changes in how we do business with you.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine
