Brown Top Millet for Dove

I've got three dove fields with Brown Top Millet.. It is going to be "late" this year due to lack of rain.
I'm thinking about spraying with glyphosate and then using a rotary cutter ( Bushhog). Or...
I also have the option to use a friends New Holland "haybine." I could put the millet in wind rows and then bushhog in between and then roll the windrow over to expose the seeds.
Anyone with experience in this?
Thanks

YES SIR I PLANT BROWN TOP AND MIX SUNFLOWER SEEDS MY SUNFLOWERS ARE DOING GOOD BUT MY MILLET IS BEHIND YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU MENTIONED ABOVE BUT I HOGHOG STRIPPS IN MINE AND THEN RUN MY DISC OVER IT AND THE DOVES LOVE IT SEEDS AND ROCKS AT THE SAME FEEDING

I used to plant it every year. Petty sure I always planted it the middle of May to make sure it was fully mature a week to 10 days prior to season.

Don't Roundup it until the seeds are mature. Also, I use Gramoxone for burn down because it's cheaper than Roundup. Otherwise you have the right plan, mow it and rake it back and forth.

The doves I have don't care for browntop at all and therefore I don't care for it. They much prefer sunflowers and don't even bother with corn unless it gets freezing cold.

I have also noticed that the doves feed much better when I do not use any chemical for burn down. I figure those chemicals leave a nasty taste.

I planted / sewed on May 14, 2020.. We didnt have rain for almost 7 weeks.. I'd rather not spray.. I think I'll try and wind row some that way I can get the ground clean with Bush Hog when I roll over the wind row.. Appreciate the feed back...

Here’s some German Foxtail I sewed in a small area. First time planting it. Really pretty head on it right now.

I GOT TO PLANT EARLY NEXT YEAR DIDNT GET MINE IN THE GROUND TILL 2ND WEEK OF JUNE IT HEADS IN BOUT 90 DAYS HERE SO MINE WANT BE MATURE

Browntop is 60-70 days to maturity. I have also had good results spraying 2,4-d on laid out fields/grass fields, letting it head out, burn it down with gramoxone or roundup, mow it, and burn it.
I have a plowed strip that I keep covered with wheat, sorghum, and/or sunflowers during the off seasn. That way I have a ton of local birds stay and nest.

cut it in strips, on to two bushogs wide, then disk it in. Doves love a dirt field more than stubble, I think they are worried about snakes hiding in stubble. Every few weeks, expand the strips to keep them coming in.
FYI the two best dove hunts Ive ever been on, One, was a sugarcane field allowed to grass over or rest for a year, then sprayed and burned. OMG the doves never stopped.
The other was on a large turf farm planted with Bermuda grass that was kept mowed with a reel mower.

Not to mention what it does to the DNA of the dove and the people who eat them.

I'm afraid that future generations are going to realize that in spades. I have to plant what they send to me, but I am trying to get away from chemicals as much as I can and get away with it. We also don't have a clue what the genetically altered crops are doing to us, live stock, chickens, or game. The genetically engineered crops have probably already crossed with the old breeds to the point that you can't find a pure form of the old varieties, unless they have been stored in a seed bank somewhere. I have read that they are beginnng to see problems crop up in livestock that consumes engineered grains.

And Monsanto lobbied and gave away enough money that the laws say they CANNOT be sued and are not liable for problems their products create.

Which, by the way, is the kind of protection they want to provide for someone who creates a virus vaccine.
