Broughton 5C Barrels

What’s the word on the 5C Barrels from Broughton?

Pros, Cons?

Looking at a 6mm 7 twist.

Thank you!

Howdy!

I have a 29” chambered in my “DEEP 6 “ wildcat.

It is superbly accurate, and cleans w/o having to use a brush.

Just built a .223 using a Broughton 1-7” twist. Shoots the 90gr VLD’s incredibly accurate. I usually use Krieger and Bartlein. But the way this gun is shooting I will use more Broughton barrels in the future.

Have two, one in 260 and one in 243. Both clean up extremely easy (which is great as I hate a tough to clean bore). Both produce slightly higher velocity than my other custom barrels (have not figured out why but like it). Both are extremely accurate. Customer service is fantastic. Will use Broughton again.

In fact I have a 338 barrel coming from Tim very soon. Look forward to the project. Started with a Bartlein ( which are equally good barrels) but decided on a longer barrel as the Bartlein was only going to finish at 28". I'll wind up using it for a 338/06 possibly.

I currently have this barrel on my .284 and .223, so far I have been very happy with both of them. I can verify that I am able to get a noticeable increase in velocity and much easier to clean than the Bartlein 5R and Brux 4 grooves IMO.

Thanks to all that replied.

A gentleman I shoot with on occasion had nothing but great things to say about Broughton as well.

Looks like that’s what I’ll try!

Thank you!

The reason I used Broughton as my first custom barrel is one of the former Texas State Service Rifle team coaches recommended them. He had purchased the barrels when Broughton was located in West Texas and had high praise for the company. I contacted the new owner and spent enough time on the phone shooting the breeze that I almost forgot I had called to order a barrel. Had Texas Brigade Armory install the Broughton 6.5 8 twist on a Stiller Tac 30. It is "boringly" accurate. Buy one you will not be disappointed.

I've had owned one Broughton in a 30 Cal for a few years and it's a hummer compared to my Bartlein. The barrel seem to like everything I put in it this far and it aways seem to have a distinctive sweet spot. The throat erosion over the years has been negligeable. The one I have is a winner.

I've responded to a few questions about Broughton barrels and only in my experience as I'm no gunsmith and do not scope or inspect the condition of the rifling prior to or after several phases of them throughout the wear process. My experience may be superficial but I believe accurate. Many have said Broughton barrels are no more accurate than any of the other big name barrel makers tubes. That is probably spot on. My only response has to be that of all the barrels I have used, the Broughtons do tend to be a little faster and clean up easier than other barrels I have and shoot regularly.

I’ve had several. Tim is great to work with. The barrels are as good as any that I’ve had.

I have one on my 7x47 field rifle. Total rig, scope, bipod , and mag is less than 9 pounds. It’ll scare the crap out of a lot of target rifles.

Love my Broughton! It is a heavy 7.7 contour in 260 Rem 21.5". Just shoots little knots! Easily 0.25 MOA with 142 SMK's 46.0 H4831sc, usually better. Likes the lighter 120's for varmints too!
