brass prep kit question

When it comes to brass prepping, what you will actually need to use will depend on the quality of case you are using. IE Lapua will probably not need pocket reaming or uniforming. Heck some reloaders do not clean out primer pockets.

Some brands of brass may need all of the prep tools. If course deburing and chamfering are needed each time a case is trimmed to length.

Primer pocket tools are for small and large primer pockets. This kit will handle all of your common needs.

Even Lapua needs work..if you are measuring pockets for depth to .0005 or .001 uniformity. Get a carbide adjustable unit...buy once cry once. All will datum off case rim.if you want to seat primers uniformly..find a way to datum off the bottom of the primer pocket. It's out there..

In not going to "suggest" what you should have. I'm gonna try to answer your question.

Look up the depth and size of other reamers and compare that to the one you have.
Maybe post the depth of yours and get better answers.
I tried to look up the specs of what you have and couldn't find any.

Hornady is a good brand. I would think it'll work on any it's made for.

I use that kit, mine is in the plastic box. Mostly use uniformers and chamfer tools, occasionally a pocket is to deep for uniformer when prepping brass so ill use the pocket cleaner.

If you're reloading for hunting applications, I don't believe you really need to uniform the pockets.

Even though I do it using the Sinclair tool, I haven't noticed any effect on group size of uniformed vs. non-uniformed pockets. The only reason I do it now is that it makes cleaning the pockets much easier. But I reload for precision varmint and predator hunting, not long range or benchrest competition.

The chamfering is very important. In my opinion, so is cleaning the pockets to prevent primer residue build up.

When it came to primer pocket uniforming I wasn't quite aware of the primer pocket uniforming tools until I acquired a case of PMC .38 Special brass and could not seat the primers. I use the Sinclair tools.

The Lyman tools are sufficient imo, as I'm a Lyman fan but wish they'd offer more of a caliber selection, but the electric prep station is the way to go in my opinion.

The small primer pocket tool is for rifle and pistol, the large pistol and rifle are separate tool heads.

Just a couple of notes here, but I’d say uniform the pockets AFTER firing, and be sure that when you chamfer and deburr, that you do the outside first, especially if you’re only removing a small amount of material.

Definitely uniform your pockets after firing then use the uniformer to clean out your pockets between firings every time after that.

Rick
