Brass not stretching in chamber

muleman69

This was simply a interservice rivalry humor and payback, I was in the Air Force and sent to MCAS Iwakuni Japan twice TDY
And the Gunny kept telling me I needed a haircut, and the other marines kept stealing our equipment.
I kind of figured something like that, us jarheads can be a bit slow at times,,,,lol

New lapua 30-06 measures 2.004
2 × fired measures 2.0045, 2.0050
Only grabbed 2 pieces out of tumbler.
I do neck size only w rcbs fo die backed out 1 full turn.
How's the bolt feel? Are you getting close.

Butter no lift issues or tightness.
RPbrass I was running 55.8 gr h4350 light cratering but no other issues on that load.
Shooting OCW test today i went as high as 56.2 and no cratering but groups were in the
.4's up from low .3's with the Rp brass.
Next I'll test at 56.2 to 56.8 in .1 increments
and see what happens
Edit RP brass was 2grains heavier than the lapua

I'm wanting to set my die for headspace but brass is not wanting to stretch in the chamber ? some have been fired up to three times ? Do I keep on firing until bolt starts to get snug upon closer? Been neck sizing only? .280 AI and .300WM
the interesting thing is you have 2 calibers to which this is occurring.
are "you just running soft loads ?
just curious on that one point, another question would be are these both SAMMI chambers?
And a third question is has someone been polishing those chambers?

Addendum- when I was neck sizing I just kept shootin um till da bolt don't close .

Now I'm Guffed" :(

I've started ordering case gauges from Wilson, my 6 br is a bit tricky for what reason but the 308 is right on. Answered my chamber questions. And as long as I'm within the headspace groove I'm good to go.

These sound good but are they at samii speck? I would like to only bump .002 if I could

I set mine for .0025 headspace
I buy them at Brunos $23

So with this gauge I can keep firing until the cases get to max on gauge then set my dies ? This probably sounds stupid but I'm trying to get this clear in my mined ,to much coffee this morning

Yep"
Trim length is on the other end
I had to chuckle at the simplicity (and myself) after my 308 case gage arrived

This is one of several things I learned from Guffey as well as using a feeler gauge under the shell holder to adjust my Dies bye way of threads.

This sounds like a great Idea, so to get it right you stick feeler gauges under shell holder run Ram to top and adjust die down to touch shell holder?

I start about.010 feeler take a measurement then adjust accordingly
Guffey told me I wasn't cut out to be a reloader.
I would read his post then go to the shop and kick the wall first, then get out the feeler gauge and start measuring"
SOB taught me something after all!

Skip's Die Shims don't put me to the curb......

I have no issues with .002" in head clearance across loaded cases when fired. That's how far the case head is from the bolt face when the firing pin drives the case full forward in the chamber against its headspacing point; rim, belt or shoulder.
