Brass Lenght

I just bought new norma brass to do some reloading and i checked to see what the case length should be and this sight said it should be 1.5598inches i checked 99% of the cases and not one was even close to that lengh. what is going on and checked lapua brass and nothing close there.

That is the SAAMI case trim length for the 6BR case. The case length should be uniform for all cases and when it grows through firing to 1.555" or longer trim back to 1.550. The actual trim length for your particular chamber would have to be measured by you. Go to Sinclair's web sight and they should have some information on that if you want to get anal about it.

If you are talking 6mm Dasher mine after fire forming on the first time I believe 1.542. Don't worry it will grow! ha ha

Most new brass and new loaded cartridges are short of even the trim to length. This is done so the brass will fit all but the short custom chambers. Just shoot it until it gets long enough to trim. You can easily find out what the maximum length is that you're chamber will take. That is usually over the maximum case length by a few thousandths. I keep my brass trimmed to that length minus .002".

With new brass, measure them all, find your shortest one and trim them all to that length. After you fire them all a first time...

Put one firing on them first then do all the case prep.

First firing just run them through a expander die, then load em up.

This sight? Did anyone from this sight make a suggestion as to the remedy. And then there the "not even close". Close is good and then there is not close so I wonder; "How close?"

And then there is sorting by length, I put a tool together that allows me to sort cases by length as fast as I can pick them up, and put them down in thousandths. I do not crimp bottle neck cases but I am the fan of all of the bullet hold I can get.

Nuthin' as pleasing as a tight bullet holder.

Fguffey, Doesn't all that bullet HOLD cause big seater stem marks on the bullet ogive. Hence inaccurate BTO dimensions ?

I would say the seater plug made the marks, just before the snarky members got involved I said the support for the seating plug can be increased if the diameter of the hole in the plug was increased and I said there are seating plugs that are not bullet friendly. And then there is the difficulty manufacturers have when trying to please everyone. To please everyone the hole in the seating plug has to have a radius.

And then there was the effort I made to avoid all of the childish behavior, It would seem the OP has another agenda. I explained to him I had three in-line, angle, but grinders. I understand there are reloaders that struggle without pictures, but I can make pilots, tapered pins/gages head space gages with a grinder that makes pilots, grinds tapers and grinds to length. I also explained to him the Herter seating die is the perfect die body for someone with shop skills when modifying seating dies and then there is the advantage Herter offered because both the seating die and sizing die shared the same threads in the top of the die.

And I did quote myself, normally I find no humor in laughing at someone, I had rather laugh with them but the image of someone jumping out into the fast lane, showing off and trying to make himself look good at other expense and then run out of gas or have nothing got the best of me because that was a funny image. And judging by his reaction I believe he is real good at dishing crap put but like an Alabama Leg dog he can not deal with it when he is laughed at.

I contacted ALABAMA BLUE PIT a few years ago about my dog, seems I was the only person that could tolerate him (LONG STORY). Anyhow, they put me in contact with ALABAMA SALLEY, she is the dog whisperer to owners of Alabama Leg dogs (Longer story), From then on I set rules for dealing with my dog. My dog and I came very close to being banned from Pet Smart and all the other pet supply stores, I explained to them he was an Alabama Leg Dog and they pretended to understand and the next time they offer pet portraits they will arrange a private session for my dog and they said (JIC) they will warn all of the cat owners we are in the store.
