Brass & accuracy

I don't think brass would cause that much trouble. In my limited experience, lousy brass (once fired Fiocchi factory ammo) to decent brass (starline 556) cut my ES in half, but it didn't make much difference in group size at 100. Heck some flash holes were so off center I am surprised the decapping die survived...

So True - Fiocchi "GFL" brass is infamous for their inability to drill a flashhole that is centered in primer pocked! :)

Sellor & Bellot "SB" is perhaps the prettiest new brass (its color and shine), but the brass alloy is incredibly hard and resists resizing even with annealing before sizing. I can't get consistent case prep on these cases so into the recycle bin they go.

I really think the off center flash holes were way back in the past--we have had several cases of GFL Fiocchi 223 in last few years and they have been dead centered--they are my go to PD brass these days FWIW it also has more case capacity vs the Starline in 223

I have GFL brass of many ages and some in 204 too. I have been shooting that Fiocchi since about 2008. I have thousands of rounds of ammo still some new and some old. Its getting so old I should probably use it up!

My Ruger 77V in 220 Swift shot wonderfully well with Norma brass, but I needed more brass. I bought a bunch of Winchester brass and prepped the heck out of it, everything but neck turning. After the prep work, the rifle shot just as well as it did with the Norma brass. I can’t attest to brass life, since I didn’t count how many reloads I got. I did minimal resizing, so the brass was worked the minimum possible.

I quit buying Winchester and Remington brass because I really don’t like all that brass prep. I don’t feel the need if I use Norma or Lapua. Without prep, I might be giving up a teensy bit of accuracy, but my coyote shooting hasn’t suffered.
