This one isn't "gunched up". The execution seems fine although it appears to have an odd angle and has a rough edge at the transition to the bore. I'd be curious to see what it looked like after you cleaned it with a bronze brush. I've lambasted manufactures for stuff I saw that then disappeared with a good cleaning.
Great result and good plan. Let us know how it works out pleaseAs I anticipated the supplier did indeed forward my concerns to the barrel maker. Both supplier and barrel maker said it was difficult to definitively say that's F-ed based on the provided photos alone. The maker was more than willing to send me the prepaid shipping label and was standing by to hear back from me.
Having passed repeated Q-tip tests, I advised the supplier I'd like to go ahead and shoot it while watching for the uneven muzzle blast/residue marks. He back coordinated and assured me that was okay, and if I had any trouble they would ship it back to the maker for appropriate action. Having already waited 17 weeks for the barrel, that is more than good enough for me and I am looking forward to making some bug holes.
Many thanks to everyone for your insight and advice. It is REALLY was and is appreciated.
Yeah.if it is going to bother you and effect your shooting, get it fixed.
Pre"This ones fine....but"......you sure like to argue when you are wrong. A muzzle crown, like other things that are important, is a pretty simple concept. Either it is done correctly and it is right....or it is wrong. Period end of story. There is zero chance if you had that done in my shop and it looked like that you would accept it, and neither would any one else. Of course, there is also less than zero chance anything that looked like that would ever come from my shop. This is not complicated. That barrel needs a new crown cut.
Pretty is as pretty does. We'll wait for his report after shooting it."This ones fine....but"......you sure like to argue when you are wrong. That was a great article - and would dispel a lot of folk's concern over feeling the need to get a new crown cut every time they see a boo-boo.Does anyone remember the crown test Precision Shooting did ? They mangled one or two and it grouped better ! Go figure. Id shoot it , its a savage and easy enought to remove if not happy .

No, but i watched a friend doing a velocity test on a 47L variant, started at 32" and lost 2" at a time with a hack saw down to 16 1/2". I wouldn't even consider posting the accuracy results, there's not enough popcorn and beer.
This x1000.i would be concerned, but I would shoot it before any other action.
