Finally got some great weather so I took my Hart 6 BR out for a test run on groundhogs. Over the winter I had a brake put on and the action bedded in a 40X stock. This rifle had given me fits in its old McMillan Marksman stock. It has now settled right down for me.
I managed to go 5 for 8. I did have several that took a few "sighters" before a solid hit, but for a first time out, not bad. Longest hit was 471, and longest miss was 494. I was able to spot hits myself, which I could not do last year without the brake. I was particularly happy because though I am somewhat mobility impaired due to a back surgery, I did grab rifle and binocs, and was able to slither up (BRambo) on two. So grateful for those steroid shots in my spine I got two weeks ago! It felt great to slide into a divot in the field, improvise a rest with my fist and binocs, and pop both chucks (276 and 228 yards) with one shot each. Later I managed to "helicopter" a chuck with a 70 grain Blitzking at 154 yards. Lifted him right off the ground, spun him in a full circle, inverted him and dumped him and parts back on the mound. With the brake i got to see it all! Sorry no photos...I do not even own a cell phone camera.
Nice way to start the season.
