I was kind of disappointed to see the quote below on this forum, in response to my signature line. I did not respond in that thread, because it was off topic. My signature followed by the quote:

“As much complaining as you are doing about it being a hobby and not fair because of bullet weights. You sure like throwing up your place at the Nationals.â€
Damned right I am proud of my shooting. Compared to many, I have been shooting long-range for a relatively short amount of time (since 2005). It’s a lot of work to shoot a good match and earn a slot up near the top of the standings. It’s great to look at match results from all over and see friends and teammates at the top. It always brings a smile. That’s what it’s all about. That’s why we keep score and give out awards. This isn’t pee-wee league and we’re not there to take home a participation award.
Most are going to Raton to earn the right to get “chairedâ€. Not many get that opportunity, and I don’t know of anyone who has declined the ride. They have earned bragging rights and nobody we shoot with would ever question it. And when it is all done, we are always there to celebrate the winners.
Many of the people we shoot with have earned the Distinguished Rifleman badge, some of them many decades ago when the badges were actually made of gold. They still wear their pins proudly, as they rightly should. Any shooting accomplishment is something to remember fondly and to be proud of.
Any shooter looking for help would be well advised to seek assistance from someone with a respectable resume or who is often at the top of the match results. Either that or find a keyboard commando, with many posts, but not much range experience. We know that we can ALWAYS count on the top shooters around us, to help with any struggles that any of us may be having. One simply has to find the right person and ask.
Or, maybe I’m wrong, again...
