Bracket for Magneto Speed?

My fixturing/design juices are flowing after reading/observing pix of the Magneto Speed chrony. But, like most everyone else, would like to do it all at one time - group & speed, w/o having a "tuner"
effect on the bbl.

RE: Having the bayo sensor NOT mounted on the bbl - I've looked at the clearances required, adjustability and mounting challenges. But not having one in hand, kinda hard to completely visualize a fix with the mill and lathe.

I'd so much like to be able to shoot and record results at the same time.......mucho handier.

Of course, if it can't be worked out then just load a couple of extras for the upper regions of velocity and see if things are getting squeaky on the pressure indications.

I'm not sure how some folks would view putting an extra hole or two in the front face of the stock to accommodate securing a bracket to hold the bayo sensor of the MSpd.

Any thoughts?

A 2¢ opinion… with a 1/4"± below bullet path requirement AND the cantilever effect of stock mounting, might consider buying the MagnetoSpeed by the case. Pretty likely intermittent fps reads, at worst pieces littering the front of the bench. :o :-\

OTOH, fitting an Anschütz forend rail could make for a "neat" installation.

A short picatinney rail mounted beneath the forearm (aka bipod mount) with scope rings and a couple pieces of 1" round stock could be put together for a "false barrel" to mount to. If on a bench rifle w/ a rest, it could be mounted directly to the rest. Either way, the mounting v-block would need some fiddling with to get the height to barrel correct.

I think the best approach would amount to an extension from the rest (maybe an extended rest stop), with a drop down leg (like a mono-pod) for support under the Magnetospeed.
You don't want to modify the gun..

Looks like we have similar character traits. When I received my MagnetoSpeed I considered at several possibilities for mounting it within the bullet path using various "attachments" that eliminated it's direct attachment to the barrel. But after I'd used the device for a while and learned how critical some of it's clearances are, if consistent and accurate results are the goal, I concluded that there is no practical means for achieving that objective.
I have used my MagnetoSpeed enough to have learned how to interpret the slight increase in vertical it can generate on targets (within a 1/4MOA variable) that I don't find it a problem at all to use it as currently designed.
The new V3 has some features I wish I had on my V2 (particularly the design of the battery compartment and the control buttons) but I'm extremely happy with the V2 in every other respect.

I, too, have one of the original MagnetoSped chronos and am totally happy.

I shoot a 6BRX with a tuner and a 284 WIN with tuner and brake. I have no problem mounting the chrono on either rifle, both without the rubber cushions for the barrel-bayo interface. I get very consistant MV readings, something I was never able to do with my old standard chroney.
The slitght up shift in impact is not an issue as it doesn't impact accuracy as it is a consistant upward "puff" on the bullet from, I believe, inductive kick when the bullet passes an inductor with a DC current in it.

I would like to see actual clinical test results from Magnetospeed with respect to this up-kick. My friend in Australia competes regularly in "F: class with no detrimental effects.

I've been shooting my MagnetoSpeed for several months now with the bayo attached to a piece of aluminum that is attached to the sling stud. I removed to rubber spacer and the strap goes around the barrel very loosely.

Nice idea, Bill. How's it work? Is that extension piece stiff enough to prevent the chrono. from bouncing around under recoil? The upward bend in it (at least that's what it looks like) about 2/3 of its length toward the muzzle makes me think it's pretty light weight material and subject to flex.

It works well. It was a piece of metal I had laying around and I can't remember what it was originally for. Using it with my 16 pound 6mm rifles with muzzle brakes has not had any recoil issues. As I said, I have the strap loose over the barrel which would keep it in position during recoil.
There are actually two bends to get the bayo lined up with the bore.
