BR scope for group discipline target dot size recommend?

I am just starting out in the group BR game and I have a question for the seasoned shooters out there.
What size target dot should I be looking for in a scope? 1/16 or 1/8 or 3/32??? Is there really that much difference in them at 100 and 200 yards?
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

I use 3/32 dot. Seems like the happy medium. Most of the March benchrest scopes (48x52) are ordered this way by the Canadian distributor.

I prefer a floating dot and in particular the 1/4 MOA dot on
the March MTR-2 reticle. Another reason I like this type of reticle
is for when it gets real fuzzy down range. It will let me bracket the
the target in the mess.

Just a thought, check with other shooter at your range and look through their scopes, especially if they are shooting the same caliber you will be shooting, in UBR score for a 30BR (.050 dot) I like NO dot, just crosshair. For the 22PPC or 6PPC I like the Nightforce C513 competition or the March MTR-2, so again look through other guys scopes and ask a lot of questions, scopes are not cheap and a wrong decision could cost you hundreds.

Unfortunately I don’t have anyone local to me that shoots BR. I will have to travel 2 hours just to get to anywhere that does club matches. I agree that scopes are not cheep so I appreciate all the help here in the forum.

Do the math, and decide for yourself.
A 1/8 MOA dot at 200 yards is roughly a quarter of inch in diameter. If you are shooting a 6 mm caliber, the reticle dot will be slightly larger than the size of a bullet hole.
I think you can see the advantage to the smallest dot or plain CH, if your vision is good enough.

Have been shooting short range bench ,100-300yds, and have been using one of these; https://athlonoptics.com/product/argos-btr-gen2-10-40x56-blr-sfp-moa/ and have intentions on moving up to this; https://athlonoptics.com/product/ares-etr-gen2-uhd-15-60x56-ablr3-sfp-ir-moa/ , they also offer one with a crosshair at an intermediate price; https://athlonoptics.com/product/heras-spr-15-60x56-blr2-sfp-moa/

Believe the 1/8"MOA click value is as important as the reticle.
That scope won’t make weight for a 100-200-300 yd LV gun or I’d get a second one. I have that exact 15-60x on my 6cm for 600 yd matches. Thanks tho!

no dot,,,it gets in the way if you are quartering a bullet or moving a ring or two to fade for a shot,,,it obscures where the crosshairs intersect the lines or even a built hole ,,,Im guessing that those who like a dot must aim at the bullseye every time,,,,,Roger

But those are your eyes. Luckily at 72, I still have the eyes of a 20 year old
with these steel grey/blue eyes. I'll take a dot any time when the mirage
comes into play. Cross hairs start looking like fence posts......No matter
what, it's a preference. There is no right or wrong, only what your eyes
will allow you to do. For what it's worth, I have this Burris 40x with a
bracketed large dot. But when the mirage gets bad, that large dot looks
like someone dribbling a basket ball forcing me to drop back on power
more then if using my much smaller dot. But again, that's my eyes.
