With my #'s Dave advised me to go with a .2725 neck. I don't shoot matches, just for my enjoyment and did not want to have to turn necks. Pointless for my needs.
Heck I'm moving away from turning necks I'm just going to skim cut! I do shoot competition too. With my #'s Dave advised me to go with a .2725 neck. I don't shoot matches, just for my enjoyment and did not want to have to turn necks. Pointless for my needs.
Since I have moved from bushings to expander mandrels to set neck interference, of the 5 most recent chamberings, the 6.5x284 is the only one I turn for and that is a skim targeted at 75%+. I intend on testing without turning for that that cartridge this summer to see the results at 1k and beyond.Heck I'm moving away from turning necks I'm just going to skim cut! I have heard this also and also heard from guys that have used it that they got very good case life. As for me I have yet to use this brass. I purchased a box for my next build because the Lapua is getting hard to find. I might also add that I have used Norma brass before in several other cartridges and found their brass to be of top quality. Thanks - the only info I have found is that Norma brand 6BR brass is soft, so I was staying clear at this time. Have you found this to be true?
Grafs is the retail outlet for Peterson…I will contact Peterson Monday for the same.
Thanks, @Hoot! I'll add these numbers to my list. The "LPT" prefix on your Lot # is only the 2nd occurrence with the other measuring in with largest thickness being .0145. Without more LPT prefix input, I'll treat that as a non-use outlier.New Lapua Blue Box Lot #LPT02613 10 random cases:
,0125 - .0130 with an average of .01265
Rotated 180 deg
,0126 - .0128 with an average of .01266

They have it in stock but I'm not interested in giving them $12.95 shipping at this time as I have some other 'out of stock" items nobody else offers shipped together with it when the are back in stock.Grafs is the retail outlet for Peterson…
So, why don’t you post the various thickness of the lots you have.I have picked up 100 pieces of Alpha and Peterson as well as I have 2 boxes of Lapua, from 2 sources with likely differing lots, inbound to measure and compare. Your inputs, combined with the my own measurements, will give me what I was after with this thread.
After having built a 20x47 Lapua, I have everything on hand to load for a 22 or 6mm in the x47. With a little necking down, I can now build virgin-case models in QuickLoad for output comparison.
Thank you for your responses!
I also received 5 additional pieces of Lapua in the mail today that I borrowed from a friend to compare. Once I get the 2 boxes of Lapua in my hands, I will get all the measurements in one sitting. I will post up my findings including neck wall thickness, case base diameter and a few other measurements, as well as case capacity in grains of water for those who may be interested. So, why don’t you post the various thickness of the lots you have.
