Would help if we knew the rules or classes at your club. Be that the case, Gene and Butch have already covered a good and wide variety of options.Looking for a 22lr bench rest rifle, what would be your recommendation's ? This would be for club level bench rest matches at 50 to 100 yds.
Funny thing, I shot a 2440 5 card agg. last week with a VPT MTR. I just got a 24” VPT today because a longer barrel bucks the wind better. I guess the grass always looks greener on the other side. Around here the top dogs are shooting 24” CZ’s.I’m assuming you are talking factory rifles. CZ 457 VPT MTR. It’s probably the most expensive CZ but from what I’ve seen the most accurate. I’m using a 24” VPT but not the MTR.
That’s good to know. I finished 2nd at my club for the year. The winner has been shooting a 457 LPR with 20.5” MTR chambered barrel.Funny thing, I shot a 2440 5 card agg. last week with a VPT MTR. If you're in an area where there are a lot of registered shoots this ^^^^ will be the norm. If not, shoot what you have and try different makes and lot#'s of ammo. Knowing that any true custom will clean your clock when it shows up.Our club shoots are dominated by Stiller customs, Anschutz, Walther, 40X, and a few others.
I believe Ammo is at least if not more important than the shooter and the barrel. What say you? That’s good to know. I finished 2nd at my club for the year. The winner has been shooting a 457 LPR with 20.5” MTR chambered barrel.
Good point, he did have a visit to Marengo. He’s also a very good shooter, and has great equipment.I believe Ammo is at least if not more important than the shooter and the barrel. What say you?

Nope, you have to have it all if you want to win, or consistently place high. Same goes for the rest and how the rifle performs in it. It's a 'system' where everything has to be working together in RFBR for good results to happen.I believe Ammo is at least if not more important than the shooter and the barrel. What say you?
Being post #5 explains the OP's rules at his club, I totally agree with the above. I own 2 CZ's (both .17hmr's) and they are very nice rifles and the brand does well in ARA Factory class.......and here's the but, no rules opening the competitor to 'run what they brung' is going to bring rifles to the line that will crush even modified CZ's.......all other things being the same.Early on we had an few CZ rifles. They were not competitive and the guys bought better rifles.
I'm helping a friend with a 457 for his wife. I inletted and bedded a Stith wood stock for it. I'm not up on them, but it has the short heavy barrel. At this time it has a trigger kit in it while waiting on a custom trigger. I have a Stiller mid barrel tuner on the way for it. I dio hope it shoots well, but question the total funds that will be invested for a lower half shooting rifle.
I promised him my Walther KK300 after my 1913 Anschutz is completed.
Oh, we have no class rules at our club in the RF game.
