Boyer Test

Tony's test is a 2^4 =16 cells, it is a common statistical factorial design evaluating four levels for two levels. Yes statistics work! I utilize a hybrid design to evaluate five levels using 9 cells, and with 3 shots each to find clear answers. But Hornady still doesn't understand it doesn't require hundreds of shots!
Would you mind dumbing down Tony's test for me? What it does and where to use it in the load development process?

What you are looking for is a seating depth that will shoot well across a wide powder window
With the PPC and N133 it is common to test at 29.6, 30 and 30.4 or there about. You look for the seating deth that looks the best at all three places. The thought is that depth will stay in tune longer through the day

In the original post target + 006 is the only place all three charges stayed together
The vertical in 006 can be taken out with more powder or with a tuner

Also, you look at the impact of the bullets across all three powder charges does it move around or stay put. Look how 006 impact point is very close on all three charges

Thank you very much. Makes perfect sense. I'm kind of a junky for different load dev methods.

Looking for feedback from those who use this method to find a load.

Shot charges of 28.5-29-29.5. Seating depth from .006-.015 into the lands. Barts 68gr Avenger, 6 PPC, N133, 100yds.

Conditions weren’t great, mirage probably influenced the groups more than anything, did use flags, and only shot 2 shots on a couple groups.
Leaning towards .009 into the lands from touch and working the charge weight but like to hear from the experienced, first time I have ever tried this method.

Thanks in advance.

Great job on this test and a lot of very good responses. What brand and twist barrel were you using on this test? WD

All these guys are giving you the right info. Not sure how you are determining the +6, but on the low node I'm finding lots of good tune at just touch or couple tho off. I'd try 0 or couple more deeper as well. Every bullet seems to like something different.

Some reamers will not allow the 30.4gr load...blows up.......I know a guy.

You may have to drop down to 29.2 29.6 and 30.0 for instance.

Later
