Boyds stock install help

First time I've tried to replace a stock and need help. Just bought a savage mkII FV-SR and wanted to replace the stock with a Boyds tacticool and ran into some problems. First off, I bought the the trigger guard and bottom plate from Boyds as well and it came with one screw. I bought replacement screws from Midway that were supposed to be for the "laminate" stock which I read somewhere that those were the ones to use with the tacticool. So, everything fit fine and the original action screws fit fine (the replacements were the same size) but I wasn't sure how tight to tighten them - i stopped when I heard cracking noises. It wasn't even that tight, I'm assuming that it may have been the bottom plate settling in or something but I don't know. Lastly, the single screw that came with the trigger guard/bottom plate I assumed (maybe stupid of me) that it fit in the screw hole behind the trigger guard. It didn't go in all the way and seems to be stripped. The bottom plate little screw didn't go anywhere and the replacement screw that was longer also didn't do much and seems stripped.

So, did I just ruin things or has this happened to somebody else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Thanks, I did call them and they basically told me to hand tighten and go. So I did and went. Went to an indoor range and shot at 25m. It seems to like CCI stuff more than fed or winchester. Was able to almost shoot one-holers except kept blowing the last shot - talk about cracking under pressure !!!

if you get a chance to disassemble check the trigger gaurd..the cracking noise you heard may have been it breaking...easy fix..simply buy another one...other than that....any screw that is just going into wood is simply cosmetic..if it doesnt go into the receiver itself just lightly tighten it...only tighten down tight the action screws. not the ones that go into wood

You might want to try some eley target and wolf match or match extra and sk standard same as wolf all lapua all good ammo at decent price 5.00 to 6.00 a box most savage rifles love this ammo

The machine screws that go into the action do not need to be anything but snug...then just a little more... do not over tighten, the wood will not stand it, these rifles for the most part are excellent shooters,SK standard pluss shoots well in most all I have seen, CCI std velocity is not to bad also.... thanks for all the input ! As a newbie, when I put the stock on, I tried to adjust the trigger to lighten it up - it was horrible! Tons of creep. Turns out the scope rings were loose too. Oh brother. I reset everything (the trigger is a little heavier but no real creep - very smooth) and reset the stock, tightening up slowly until it wouldn't turn any more. Still heard a little cracking but the screws would still turn (less than 20 in-lbs though). I've got some wolf, eley, fed gold medal in the midway cart. I'll look for the others tonight. I hope to make it to a longer range soon.
I'll post pics of the rifle and the groups as soon as I can.
