Boyds stock fit ??????

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I bought a new pro varmint for a salvage model 110 top blot release centerfeed. The recoil lug routing is off by like a 1/16th of an inch. Now they gave me permission to sand it or whatever to move the action back so the screws will line up. Has anyone run into this before?

i only had 2 Boyds stock on ruger MII, and they fit perfect, but i have friends that had to sand a little

Ive had some that bolt right in and some that needed very minor fitting. But I was going to bed them anyway so not a huge deal. If I wasnt planning on bedding Id rather have to sand a 1/16th off then have it to loose

sometimes it is the overly thick finish that screws up the fit.
go on a sanding party removing finish on the inside that may interfere

Best to do a piller bedding job on it. I had to do it to mine. Also they are not sealed against water intrusion on the interior recess' s . i used true oil to seal it up. Then after complete drying i used the liquid wax to make sure it was sealed proper.

Had to do a whole lot of Dremel work on a laminate of another Mfg. to set it up for Pillars , and bedding , but it was worth it . I agree on the pillars and bedding . It will be worth it in the end . And definitely seal that sucker up like there's no tomorrow . You'll be glad you did it later on .

Grand-dad said :"There's never time to do it right , but always time to do it Twice" . Take the time to do it right , and there won't be a "Twice" . ;)

I think usually they are pretty good.

Tried putting a Ruger American into one a few years back and it needed some pretty hefty dremmel work to get it to fit.

Me too! Mostly in triger relief, kept hitting the set screw for trigger weight adjustment.

They're 1 for 3 with me.

Two required me to remove significant amounts of wood in order to fit; one them also had an awful 'orange peel' effect on the finish. The third one was a drop in fit, and a perfect finish.

I'm not planning to use them again.

I have/had four. Three fit perfectly. The fourth was for a barreled action Howa my boy picked up from PT&G a few years ago. It’s fit was just a bit off. A little judicious dremel work and some bedding compound took care of that.

The assumption that some misalignment is the stock makers fault on a mass-produced rifle is not a necessarily correct anyway. Compounding ‘errors’ can add up from manufacturing tolerances. Boyds almost certainly just laser measured a barreled action to get the footprint and uses that for their cnc milling. If that is slightly different from what you have, voila, some misalignment occurs.
