Boyd's pro varmint

Has anyone purchased one of the Boyd's pro Varmint stock in black or green

If yes how is the finish?

The finish is decent, but a little too flat for my liking.

The last couple I've ordered were upgraded to the colored laminate for $15 and well worth it. It only took about a week to get them as well.

i was hoping to see better pictures, there selection is very limited and is also limited on the angles of the pictures so it's hard to really tell how it's configured

I can't do pictures but I bought one of their stocks in a gloss finish and it looks really nice. It was for a Rem short action 700 price was around 160.00 I think including shipping, also got butt pad included. This was for an ADL model not sure if there is a difference in price or not but was a complete drop in no work and a little polish and it looks real good. Barrel also free floated without any additional work

Forgot to mention this was a Thumb-hole style stock as well, I don't think you can beat it for the price

I have purchase quite a few stocks from Boyd's I think they are a great value for an American made product.

I have have several of the thumbhole models in several dirrerent colors.

I just have never tried one of the painted units.

I almost went with the coyote laminate like the one in the post above. But I went with the Green putting an old 110g action in it with a new SS barrel I was going to go 338-06 but I was able to pick up a new Factory magnum taper SS 270 win barrel from Numrich for $84.
Thinking of either green or black dura coat for the action. EGW base is on the way too.

I have purchase (2) in there stock black textured finish, I myself like them... never had an issue with these Pro varmint stocks

Update
Not very happy at all with the finish on the Pro Varmint -- called Boyd's and that was useless.

I do just buy a thumb hole in Coyote wood for a 111 and it is near perfect.

They make a good product but I will never buy the painted units again.

I bought one for a Savage with bottom bolt release. First impression, for the price....not bad. Being the dork that I am, I proceeded to remove the black coating with paint stripper only to find a hard wood stock with a lot of deep grainy grooves that were almost impossible to sand out. After four coats of primer it still looked terrible. I ended up buying some paint with a textured finish and gave it a coat of that. It filled the cracks and after a DIY camo job, it turned out pretty good. All in all, its a good solid stock and worth the money, if you don't strip the finish off. LOL

Bought their AT-one stock. Looks great but soon had a quality issue with it. Sent them pictures and they asked me to return it back for there evaluation department to look at it. Sent me a shipping label and I sent it in. After 5 weeks and several emails from me asking when will I get the stock back I was told don't have a date yet and they have a lot of things to evaluate.

Got the stock back and no explanation of work done or needed, stock was not repaired.

Wrote a letter to Boyd's CEO. Explained the issues I had with there customer service.

He sent me a email asking me to call the operations manager.

Called him today and spoke to the manager.

Out come is they are doing NOTHING to correct the issues.

Told me that if I ever wanted to buy another stock from them to contact him and he would give me a discount...

Yeah, like that's going to happen in my future......

So, my take is they don't care about there product or customers.....

I just got a pro varmint from them in coyote laminate, matte finish. Last time I got a Boyds stiock was about 7 yrs ago and this latest one is a much better product than that one was. Very pleased for 165$ shipped.

Pro varmint with ribbon checkering and adjustable cheek. Good value in my opinion.

Just got a Boyds for a Savage action. It fits snug and I had to knock some high spots off, this is way better than having the action flopping around.
I went with the paint. Am I happy or mad, well hell its paint. If I don't like it, I can paint over it. It acts as a sealer anyway.
I want useful before purty any day. The stock is over and above what came on the savage. I swear some of these manufacutures should just offer barreled actions and keep their cheesey limp Tupperware stocks.

They have some texture but not a lot. I generally end up painting them just give them a little more character. Very nice stocks for the money though, I've put a few on some savages and went with a solid walnut on my 10/22. Here are some pics of one I painted for a buddy of mine.
