Bow shooting better than rifle

I wish I could still shoot now, darn rotator cuff let loose. After surgery I'm hoping I can get it back out. That was some good shooting!

Archery has it's own versions of the "I don't like people who don't do it the way I do" club, and some of them are at least as vehement if not more so than those in the shooting community. I've even heard/read long bow and recurve shooters complain about "gap shooters", (which if you understand it is IMO truly searching for something to complain about) and don't even begin to get the upright guys going on X-bows for hunting.

I was in MO when they started to allow X-bows in archery season. From the postings at the local walk through course I was shooting at Jefferson Barracks you'd have thought they were legalizing night hunting.

For the archery guys in the room, I shoot 300 spine FMJs at full out of the box length from a PSE Freak set to 32". As of late last yr I've been trying out some 300 spine Gold Tip hunter XTs. They do shoot a little flatter, but with my spot hog single pin I don't shoot them with any more precision that the FMJs.

To the original post...I have spent some time practicing with my service rifle, and I have to think that at 50 yards I probably shoot the bow better for group than I do an AR off hand. I'm no archery phenom, but a couple of yrs ago I quit shooting groups of more than one inside of 30 yards because I got tired of broken knocks and ripped vanes. (switching from field points to bullet points has helped with this some too)

I'm going to have to put this one to the test and see for myself which I do better.

Oh yea, I own X bows too.

Not gonna do 95. Tried 50. I used to be able to group 5 arrows in the 2" range @ 50 with my compounds. Best I could do with the Xbow offhand standing was 3 arrows in 4". For s & g's tried prone. I now have my first Robin Hood with the Ravin. What do you people do with your Robin Hoods, leave 'em together or pull the good arrow out?

Hang em on the wall.
Now your out 2 arrows instead of 1.
Now I shoot only 1 shot and pull my arrow, good exercise and cheaper.

Been doing quite a bit of practice this summer with my PSE Evo at some extended distances. What I have found interesting is that I have shot several groups like this one in the video that are as good as I can shoot a rifle offhand at this distance with a scope. ‍♂️
Some years ago the bow boys at a club I belonged too knew they could out shoot the offhand rifle guys at 50 yds. Well at the ugly end the boys lost to the guys, by a heap. Actually, by a mountain. A few years later a new group of bow boys had the same idea, with the same results. Just stories from the past....forget history and it can get ugly.

No flames, but in Dec. 2016 I hunted elk out of Craig, CO. in 12 inches of snow and killed my bull walking at 280yds, with some cows, at the very end of the second day, when I was about done, physically.
I was then 75 years old and likely should not have been out there.

Could a bowman have gotten that elk. I believe that he could have, but he would had to have been more fit than I was AND able to stalk into bow range to make the kill.

Given that story alone, I say that bowmen must be better hunters than are riflemen.

My rifle was one of the few in a camp of 12 that was not a Magnum, being in 280Rem and one of the few not sporting a high priced computerized scope. One young man took a bull at 700 yards. A bowman would have had to be a better hunter than that young man, to bag that bull.
