Bought a rifle today, 6x45 what can you tell me about this?

How far is your long range if your stretching it’s legs some?

Club only has 200, so that is the extent of my load work. I have poked praire dogs a bit over 300. Got my come ups figured, then it was game on for acrobat lessons with the 65 Vmax. The 70 grain TNT’s shot equally well but with less disruption.

Our club range is max 300 yards, little over an hour away I can get out to 750 yards, but having a job makes that difficult. Just about all of my testing is done at 200 yards and I have access to 300 only on Thursday evening from 4pm till dark.

My primary varmint/target load is as follows, Caution this is .5gr over Hodgdons max.
70gr TNT
IMR8208XBR: 27.5gr
OAL 2.310
Remington 7 1/2 primer
Winchester 223 rem case
Average velocity in my 18" 1:10 is 3023fps. I have fired hundreds of these. They are excellent short to medium range bullets. Another bullet you may be interested in is the Hornady 87gr BTHP.
87gr BTHP
IMR8208XBR: 25.7gr
OAL 2.330
Remington 7 1/2 primer
LC cases
AVG velocity is 2805fps
ES 35,SD 11
Attached is a 10 shot group at 100yds of the 87bthp. They shoot pretty good too.

@LiveFire

I’ve been testing 87s in mine with 8208 but I can’t seem to find the right load. How much jump are you running with these?
To be honest I have no idea what the jump is. It has to be a long one. This is in an ar15 and I have never found the lands with any loaded round I can fit in the magazine. To fit the OAL of 2.330 I notched out the front of a 5rd ASC magazine to make room.

I’m having a hard time getting this one to shoot. Gonna keep trying though cause I have a prairie dog shoot coming up soon.

Is this an AR as well?
What are you getting for group now?
I wouldn’t force feed it what it doesn’t like. H335 and a 70 grain TNT is stellar in the half dozen I have played with. Maybe not high speed but good to excellent accuracy.

This is a Tikka bolt gun. Im still testing now but groups are 1” or larger at 100. 8208 is all I have and I have over 2k of these 87s. I gotta make them shoot.

@Lefty Trigger

Figure any good combos out yet?
Well right now I'm stuck waiting on bullets for it. So far it really likes Berger 68gr flat base target bullets and Sierra 70gr match kings. I'm having great luck with 8208XBR, H4895 and Accurate 2015BR powders.
68gr, 27.4 gr of H4895, 205m
70gr, 24.0gr of AA2015BR, 205m
No more testing till I get more bullets....

Your driving them too hard, back the loads down and watch the accuracy improve unless your after total speed then carry on.
With the 70gr try the 8208 around 25.3-25.7 area and the the 87gr and the 8208 try around the 24.0gr area. I'm getting really good accuracy going slower even though the ES/SD numbers are not so great but what prints on paper is what counts. I'm finding it to be a really quirky round that don't follow the norm for reloading.

Im glad you are having good luck with 8208xbr. The only reason I ever bought it was for my 6x45. Now its a staple in my powder cabinet. The gunsmith who cut, profiled, and chambered my barrel told me he only ever used 2015br for all bullet weights he used. He said it did so well he didnt bother trying many others. Unfortunately I have never gotten the results I wanted from it.

I may give that a try. I just got my rifle out for the season and prepped some brass last night. Time to watch for woodchucks in the cornfields for the next 3-4 weeks.
