DASHER DOME
Gold $$ Contributor
Richard Slatton, Bottom Fodder on this board from near Tuscaloosa, Ala. journeyed up to the DOME Friday and had a blow out day. His one goal was to hit the 700 yd 1" x 3" finger. Shooting a Savage Stryker 16 inch pistol chambered in 6mm BRX, he started at 100 yds and worked out a 100 yards at a time. At 600 he hit the hostage taker, a 5" disc. Next at 700 he hit the 2 inch bracket holding the finger. Then I told Richard to go to the 800 yd ground hog and he made heart shot to the chest. Later he returned to the 700 yd finger and hit the bracket a couple more times and then scored his goal, a direct hit on the finger.
Later Richard hit a gallon water jug with a 375 Cheytac and then a 10 inch, 20 lb, 2 inch thick disc twice. I failed to get a pic of him under Junebug's Cheytac but someone did and maybe they will send me the pic or post themselves. Preacher left before the photo session so no evidence of preacher but Preacher did show off again hitting not one but two 800 yard eggs with his Tod Soeby Bat M 6 mm Dasher.
Richard said he would be back!!!!IMG_9854.jpeg

On an invite to visit and shoot an the famous Dasher Dome I was a little bit nervous like always any time you short a little different kinda shoot with people you don’t know it can be a little intimidating. But five mins after you arrive Randy and crew make you feel like family. This fun shoot is like no other but very challenging. What’s very unique it’s not just shooting at steel targets, these targets have names, “ole Chuck”, “ the fox”, “ hostage taker” “ the egg rack” and my favorite “ the finger” along with other. All from 100 to 800 yards. When I left home my “must hit target was ole Chucky at 800 but that changed when I saw “ the Finger” this unique target is a slender strip of metal about the size of your index finger painted orange at 700 yards. After a couple Sighter I able the hit the hinge holding the finger three times, I came down 1 MOA and next shot the finger was mine. Happy camper to say the least. Next favorite was the “ hostage taker” a silhouette plate( the hostage) with a small steel circle (the taker) setting like it looking over the hostage’s shoulder the ideal is taking out the bad guy with no harm to the hostage. At 600 yards. It took 3 shots but none hit the hostage but took out the bad guy.

I was able to hit all the varying steel plate targets but only 3 of the 7 eggs on the egg rake but had a very vary good day a lot of fun, today I won, next time who knows the “dome” may win

Hey, you shot a 3 inch group at 800 with my BAT SB 6 BRX and Vapor Trail 103's. Then you hit Chuckie in the heart
That’s right 3 in. group with your BrX at 800
I hit the what 2 in. Finger hanger 3 times with my BrX at 700
So I shot a 3 in group at 800 and a 2 in. Group at 700 and each with a different guns but both in 6BrX
So it was a good day at the Dasher Dome for the 6 BrX

I was asked about the detail my gun/ setup so here’s the details

Specifications of my “specialty pistol” that as Birdog said I used to hit every target the Dome had to offer (I was having a super good day)

Discontinued savage striker “handgun” this one came from the factory as a 14” 308. I rebarreled it with a Mcgown heavy taper 16” nutted prefit in 6BrX.

It has the factory trigger adjust to be a two stage, factory stock that I opened the barrel channel to accept the heavy barrel and I added weight.

20 MOA base, Monstrum rings and Night Force Competition scope.

The gun with scope weight is 12 pounds. I use a Seb Joypod but because of limit use of my right side (I shoot left handed) I don’t use the joy stick but use a homemade adjustable rear rest. The recoil normally takes me off the target and sometimes I have to turn the power down find the target and then turn it back up. No free recoiling. So other than the barrel pretty much a factory Butt ugly Savage.

My load for this barrel

Lapua fire formed brass that have Been reloaded around 13 times and has been annealed twice. 266 bushing with drill brushed necks , CCI 450 primers, 32.7 Varget 107 SMK 10 thousand in the lands, MV of about 2750

Hope this answers any questions about my set up

Again I would like to thank Birdog and crew for a super, relaxing and fun day. This is a trip I will aways be thankful I made.

Thanks for another great write up and pictures birdog.
Who says the Strikers won't shoot? In their factory stock they are brute rugged and accurate in the field. I guarantee you will cuss before you get the trigger where you want it.
