Boss system tuning

So my buddy threaded a Boss system on the end of my barrel.
I know its basically a tuner.
I have a load that I'm calling good enough to hunt with, last 2 range trips .8" & 1" groups @ 300 yards, but now I'm wanting to investigate the tuner aspect of the Boss system.

Currently Boss system is screwed all the way in.
How far should I rotate boss between groups to tune?
Start 1 full turn out?
Just a few marks at a time from current setting?

Just a couple thoughts:

Since your rifle (I'm assuming a sporter here) shoots an inch or less at 300 yards it's very unlikely the BOSS will improve that. But it might be fun trying.

Second, it sounds like this BOSS was installed on something other than a factory rifle originally built for one. If the barrel length and contour are different from a factory BOSS rifle, the suggested "sweet spot" might very well not be the same or even close. Harmonics are picky about things like that.

Back in the olden days Browning made some heavy barreled varmint rifles with the BOSS that had their own sweet spot chart but those things would really shoot. Mine was a 22-250 that would shoot handloads in the mid-twos for five rounds. It didn't do it for very long but it was fun while it lasted....

I shot a tupperware stocked 243 A-Bolt sporter with BOSS in a local match for a year that would put three shots in well under an inch at 200 yds. Pretty much unbeatable and still holds the club record.

All of mine were very sensitive to tune. Turn it 0.3 and it would go from hero to zero just like that. A half turn, 0.5, could take you right past a sweet spot. Still fun though.....

All Brownings I ever worked with that had a BOSS:

(2) 270 BAR's
Several 30/06's-BAR's
at least Four 7 Mags-BAR's

All were tuned to shoot small groups were all the bullets touched, EVERYONE OF THEM!!!

Clean the barrel every 20 rounds as they do copper foul!

@Dave Berg it's not even a Browning.
#4 contour Krieger on a trued Remington.
I got to thinking about 5 turns thinking that was a lot.
Testing from my zero spot in small increments is probably my best option.
@murray brook oh she'll hunt!
Bear season starts Saturday
I probably shouldn't go down the what's this gadget on the end of my rifle road, but it's like there is a strange force saying play with me.

We had a red neck solution on our BOSS's. We screw'd them all the way to the rear, went out one revolution, started firing two shot groups. We moved the the boss one number at a time. The groups would get worse or better. Keep going if they get better, back off if they got worse.

ON occasion, the groups would stay the same. We would go out a full revolution and see the results. Then start working out in two shot groups, one number adjustment at a time. As bullets got to where they were just about touching, then we started splitting numbers.

Critical to keep the barrels clean, carbon and copper as fouling skews any repeatable results...every 20 shots, good bronze bristle brushes, good copper solvent.
