BoreScopes

I want to know from those who have actually used these products and shoots comp at 1000yds.

I'm shooting a 6.5-284 at 1000yds and I want to know if a borescope is really worth the money or not.

What is it going to tell me? Can i tell when my barrel is shot out before it actually is or is counting my rounds and watching my groups a better way of measuring when my barrels is to far gone.

I just don't want to waste my money. Also which scopes are worth the juice? I've been looking at Hawkeye, any suggestions?

I want to know what you guys have seen or dealt with. Any opinions would be great. Thanks for the time guys.

The Hawkeye bore scope will allow you to do more than check your bore condition.
It shows if your barrel is really as clean as you think it is...
It shows how long your chamber really is.......
It shows if your throat is burnt out.....
The list goes on and on....
They are a bit pricey but I've never know anyone to regret the purchase.....

They also make it easy to examine your crown. I find myself using mine for lots of things now that I have it. It's most important use for me is to audit my cleaning practices. What will keep a barrel clean seems to change with the age of the barrel.

Ive had mine since the winter of 2004. Its a Deluxe Hawkeye with the case. I really really like this thing and now its been 4 years and I use it EVERY time I clean a rifle. You can pinpoint the place that there is copper and work that area. Like for instance I had some copper in the grooves 4 inches back from the crown but the rest of the barrel was squeeky clean. I know that and I can see it with the bore scope.
All these gentlmen who claim they have the best bore cleaner and the best technique to clean a barrel can keep on talking but you WILL KNOW FOR SURE what works and what does not. Until they see what is going on inside that barrel they will be just guessing like i did till i got a borescope.

Ive used it for alot of things, and like to watch the throat eroade on my prone rifles as you get more and more rounds down them. I find it intreiging to say the least. The 6.5 is hard on tubes thats for sure. I also know how far to set a barrel back when its time to rechamber, getting into some fresh land and grooves.

You will never regret it thats for sure.

Go forth sir into the light of knowledge and leave the guessing behind.

Is the 17" length Hawkeye tube the way to go, or is the 22" length necessary if you have barrels up to 30" long? Boy, the Hawkeye's get right pricey!
Thanks.

The 17 inch model will not allow you to see the complete length of a 30 inch barrel if it's on a receiver, close but not 100 %..........
Drop one of those expensive tubes and replace it and you'll be very careful next time :,

How many of you have the Limited Edition model? Does the fixed focus work well? The Sinclair catalog says focus is pre-set for .22-.30 cal barrels.
I can live w/out the nice carrying case, but I want to ensure the scope is focused, and easily adjusted when needed.
If the focus needs to be changed, is it easy to do? I've seen the Hawkeye rep at a major shoot, and the fast-focus eyepiece on the higher end models would be nice,at an increased cost), but if the fixed focus does the job, I might be able to talk myself into a borescope.
Thanks

Yes, a borescope can be a big investment but it is a valuable tool. I've had one now for about two years; a Hawkeye 22" that has an adjustable eyepiece. It's used for break in, monitoring throat erosion, condition of crown, cleaning technique, brush or no brush, etc. There is no more question mark or maybe because now you have a method to see what is going on.

Spend the few extra bucks now for the adjustable focus model- unless your eyesight won't change with age for the life of the borescope.
I can't make it through the week with-out using my Hawkeye deluxe w/adj focus &/or adj focus 90deg eye piece.

I called Hawkeye today to get some info.
The lady I talked to said the fixed focus model usually needs to be refocused when it is used in a different caliber barrel to get the best picture.
She also said the borescopes with the green eyepiece as shown in the SHOT video have been out for a while so retailers should have them in stock. She said they have an improved image, and the 90 deg mirror is more durable,a common complaint I've read about the mirror).
So now I need to decide if I want to give Bruno's a call . . .
