Angled eye piece worth it?

I am going to start saving some money for a borescope, my only question is the angled eye piece for the hawkeye worth the extra $275 from Brunos?

I did not buy the angled eye piece but I wish that I did. When scoping from the muzzle, the straight eye piece works very well but when scoping from the breech, unless I remove the action from the stock, my glasses hit the comb of the stock as I try to use the bore scope. Consequently, I can't see much beyond the first few inches of the chamber. The angled eye piece would allow my scoping of the breech end of the barrel.

Some day I will break down and buy the angled eye piece.

My problem was the very large diameter of the housing of the 90 degree angled eyepiece. It would not clear the high combs and cheekpieces on some of my stocks. Shown in the first pic is the straight eyepiece that just barely clears the comb of a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock. The position of the tube can be seen: high at the rear of the receiver, low as it enters the chamber, with tension on it. Not good. The angled eyepiece, having a much larger diameter would make it impossible to use without removing the receiver from the stock.

My method of using the straight eyepiece is shown in the next 3 pics. I do not wear glasses, so not a problem there. Elevate the rifle, laid flat, on top of a workbench, pull up a chair, sit down & look straight in.

My advice would be to make the initial purchase without the $275 additional cost, and if you find that you need it, it can always be bought later. Price is the same whether bought with the borescope or later.

Great product, never regretted the purchase. (The borescope, not the angled eyepiece).

Good post fdshuster
That's the way I'm gettin by.
One thing I did do was replace the cheap flashlight with an LED (another cheap) light.
While the yellow incandescent works ok, a white LED gives me a brighter, more diffuse view + actual color in fouling.

I got one with the kit at the start many years ago and have never used it yet except to test it out. It just seems it has never yet been need but I will have it in case there comes a time.

I have always wanted the camera adapter but have never sprung the $$ for one. Maybe some day.

IMO, I would try it with out and get it later if need be.

When I bought mine from Bruno's it came with the bore scope as a package. I use it every time. I think its worth it.

I bought the angle eyepiece after I already had my Hawkeye. If I had to do over again, I would buy it as a combo. I believe it will save you money overall.

gmorganal: You are correct, and I stand corrected. Just checked Bruno's site for latest prices (best around for the Hawkeye). 17" deluxe focusing w/o eyepiece is $695. Same borescope with the 90 degree is $889, so an additional cost of $194 vs. $275 if bought seperately.

A good choice for those who feel they need the 90 degree. ;)

Yes, it is worth the extra funds. Look at Bruno's as they have a pretty good deal on a complete unit. When you use a scope in conjunction with cleaning your rifle, you will really be able to see all the crud left in a barrel after shooting. Using the scope is worth the time to set it up.

By the way if anyone has one they do not need, let me know as I have a friend looking for a good used bore scope.

Thank you
