Borescope results.

Longone1: Don't know if your question is directed at me, but I'll answer anyway. I found Lester Bruno, located in Phoenix AZ to have the best price. They frequently come with a $75 mail-in rebate from Gradient Lens, and both of mine were available with the rebate, so that is one of the questions I would ask when ordering. I've been completely satisfied with the 17" Deluxe, focusing, with the hard case, as shown in Sinclair's 2011-A catalog, page 217, item# HS17FE-K. I believe it is available without the hard case for less, but the hard case is nice if taking it out of the secure area of my workshop.

And finally, the way I set-up and use my borescope. A 12.5" high box is placed on top of my workbench, a bath towell between the rifle & box, a chair pulled up, and look straight into the bore. By doing it this way I find no need for the 90 degree angled eyepiece. I do prefer the Energizer Lithium batteries, as the Energizer Bunny says, "they just keep going and going". And I make sure I keep a good supply of the replacement bulbs. They do seem to burn out at a higher rate than when used in a regular Mini Mag. ;)

One of the best modifications you can make to the Hawkeye with the 2XAA Maglite, is to replace the krypton bulb setup with a multi LED kit. I have been using mine now for about three years with no problems & no new batteries. I keep wondering just how long will this thing keep going? I also like the bluish color of the LEDs, seems like that gives better contrast, just like flourescent vs incandescent lights.

+1 on the suggestion of upgrading the mini mag light with LEDs. I found kits to do so locally and upgraded several of my mini mags - including the one on my Hawkeye. Nite Ize is the brand I bought, because that's what Wally World carried. If - like me - you don't like patronizing WW, Nite Ize's website is:
www.NiteIze.com

I also find the Hawkeye great for inspecting a chamber as I'm reaming it - once the reamer starts to cut the throat/leade area, the borescope gives me good insight on how even the throat's being cut, or IOW, whether I had the bbl. dialed in correctly.

I got my kit w/the angle eye piece from Brunos via a link one of the shooters here put up on a post & he was the lowest I found in 4 days of online looking.
It was a toss up from Midwayusa the standard kit or Brunos with the extra eye piece and for the $179 difference I went with that kit. 2 weeks ago I got the last angle kit from Brunos, he had the other straight 17" kit also in stock.
There was some Hawkeye kits on Ebay for $799 from another place in AZ, but it was the standard kit with the nova light source...but they never got back to me if the actually had the 17" in stock, so I went with a company that took care of its customer.

Thanks guys, this thread pushed me over the edge... been wanting one for quite some time and finally ordered one this evening from Bruno. Bought the HS17-shot-kit, should have it by the end of next week.

You guys are costing me a small fortune!
